Baby in Parm had no rain cover was wearing just a top with trousers no shoes or socks and no COAT not even a blanket

Little girl had on jumper with a denim jack and tights with shoes yes people no skirt nothing just tight no not leggings just tights Confused

The chidren looked very cold I myself had baby in two blankets always hbring one spare plus she had snow suit and Rain cover I wanted to offer women my spare blanket for the baby friend said I shouldn't so I didn't now I feel really bad and have just been thinking how cold the kids must be Sad

Were they just caught out in the rain and cold?

Much as I'd like a bit of judgy pant hoiking, it's easily done.

noUggscuse · 04/05/2012 22:24

YANBU - it is neglectful. Poor children!

Mrbojangles1 · 04/05/2012 22:25

Well

It has been raining and cold for the last two weeks non stop so unless you just arrived in my town pretty much hard to be caught out

Was she dressed correctly for the weather?

Birdsgottafly · 04/05/2012 22:27

It doesn't sound as though she had dressed them properly, but that may have been for a variety of reasons.

Depending on how expensive the blanket was, i probably would have offered it and started a conversation, she may be struggling and needs help.

Notcontent · 04/05/2012 22:28

I have seen lots of cold looking children recently. It always upsets me.

Ismeyes · 04/05/2012 22:29

Where are you? Its been raining here in SW, but no one is walking around in a coat.

I can't think where you must be to have a baby in clothes +snowsuit +2 blankets +raincover?

NicNocJnr · 04/05/2012 22:29

Poor kids. It does seem neglectful but -

It's not easy to judge why though with such a small snapshot into someone's day. I'd have prob said something 'oh I've got a spare blanket here would you like it? It's got a bit cold and wet hasn't it' but wouldn't go much further than that.

If I saw her again in the same situation I would talk to her - mention my concerns, see if she needed a hand etc and see what she said.

Mrbojangles1 · 04/05/2012 22:30

She wearing a leather look type mac, seems like she had on jeans underneath wasn't really paying Much mind to her just looking at the kids

I never know wether I should say or do anything in these situations as don't want to offended but I can't help thinking the children looked so cold while dd looked so warm

maybe she just came from messy play so the rest of their clothes got wet or messy and it was only a few mins to home

TheSockPuppet · 04/05/2012 22:31

It was really hot here yesterday, was it the same where you are op? Maybe she stayed the night at a relatives/friends and ambitiously packed for similar weather?

WateryFowls · 04/05/2012 22:31

You would have judged if you'd seen me and DD1 walking down the road to the car which was parked at the far end. She had managed to get poo all down her trousers at my mother's so she had on her top, mac and wellies. Was bloody freezing but we had to get home so not much I could do. She thought it was great fun.

crunchbag · 04/05/2012 22:33

She probably thought the same about your baby, 2 blankets, snowsuit and raincover, it's not below zero.

I don't see anything wrong with tights, jumper and jacket. Yes it was a lot colder today then yesterday so they could easily have misjudged the temperature.

SmileySusan · 04/05/2012 22:33

You have no idea whether the woman dressed the children inappropriately or whether there were other circumstances.

Maybe the kids had decided to jump in a big puddle, got absolutely soaked and were wearing all the spare clothes she had.

FredFredGeorge · 04/05/2012 22:34

Yes - where are you, it would really help me understand - here in London over the last few days there's no way DD would be in a snow suit alone, let alone a snow suit and two blankets and in a rain cover, she'd be way too hot! (And babies are a lot better at warming themselves up than cooling themselves down so it's better to err on the side of too cold)

How exactly did they "look cold" blue lips? distinct shivering? Sounds to me like you're projecting your idea of what appropriate dress is on someone you have no idea.

medievalgirl · 04/05/2012 22:35

A snowsuit? In May? It wasn't even cold today (in Britain). Are you in Antarctica?

Mrbojangles1 · 04/05/2012 22:36

Water that's why I didn't say anything you never know really

Ismeyes
My baby had on babygrows snow suit, one blanket and rain cover I keep a seconed for spare I have learned from bitter experince not to take one all it takes is baby to puke just once and blanket is stinky and wet then your with out a blanket ( baby is very prone is pukeing)

My dd (3) is always hot and strips off coats and jumpers which I end up carrying. Now I just take her out without.

When I was little girls and boys had bare legs the whole year through. I don't remember every being especially cold.

skybluepearl · 04/05/2012 22:39

I think your kid was dressed to warmly and her kids weren't dressed warmly enough.

LingDiLong · 04/05/2012 22:41

You know what, it could be that the kids pooed/puked/fell in a puddle/had a tantrum about their clothes. It could be that they came from somewhere really warm and the kids had overheated so she was cooling them off. It could be that the baby suddenly came down with a high temperature. It could be that she didn't feel that cold today - this time of year 1/2 the population are in thick coats and the other 1/2 in shorts.

It could be one of a million things but, admit it, what really warms you up isn't your 'weather appropriate' clothing, it's that feeling of being a superior mum. Isn't it?

usualsuspect · 04/05/2012 22:42

We don't usually have these won't somebody think of the poor cold children threads in May

Mrbojangles1 · 04/05/2012 22:42

Up north it's 7c freezing

skybluepearl · 04/05/2012 22:42

My older baby had a thick coat, jumper, t shirt, socks, shoes, trousers when out and about. They only need one more layer than us - and I was only wearing a jumper and shirt.

DesperatelySeekingSedatives · 04/05/2012 22:43

You had your baby in a snowsuit?! It can't be that cold where you are, unless you aren't in the UK.

Neither child sound like they were correctly dressed but that could be for any number of reasons. I once took my DD home from the park with only a t shirt and knickers on a blanket over her (she was in the buggy) because I loaned her skirt to a friend's little girl who had messed herself and friend had forgotten spare clothes. Maybe this lady was also having a rubbish day?

LoopyLoopsTootTootToots · 04/05/2012 22:43

Snow suits are really for snow.

Babygro + snowsuit + blanket = far more of a risk to baby.
