Today was at the bus stop with my baby saw a lady with two children take in consideration it's very cold and vert wet weather

She had what seemed like a toddler and a baby around 1 in a Parm

Baby in Parm had no rain cover was wearing just a top with trousers no shoes or socks and no COAT not even a blanket

Little girl had on jumper with a denim jack and tights with shoes yes people no skirt nothing just tight no not leggings just tights Confused

The chidren looked very cold I myself had baby in two blankets always hbring one spare plus she had snow suit and Rain cover I wanted to offer women my spare blanket for the baby friend said I shouldn't so I didn't now I feel really bad and have just been thinking how cold the kids must be Sad

Where i am, the wind has been bitter.

I took your post that it was still on your mind whether you should have offered the blanket, nothing more.

I would have done, but then most people are reasonable where i live, we talk to each other and even smile! So it wouldn't have been a problem to offer. We touch and talk to each others babies/children, which doesn't seem to happen across MN.

OP you can only judge the situation, but as i said, i would have offered. They were probably fine, on their way home.

Ha - just realised I wrote 'GAP hoodie'

I am a knobber

LoopyLoopsTootTootToots · 04/05/2012 23:02

Out of interest, aren't tights leggings with feet? Therefore, more bad-weather-appropriate than leggings?

startail · 04/05/2012 23:02

DD2 has been wandering out of school in blouse, gillette, socks and skirt this week.

Suggestions of jumper and/or coat with sleeves have met with dismissive shrug.

OK she's 11, but her teen sisters been in trousers and her thick school jumper. No coat even in the pouring rain, but we've had the senior school coat thread.

Me, I'm always cold. I had skinny trousers tucked into my long winter boots and my quilted jacket on.

Hulababy · 04/05/2012 23:03

Far more dangerous for a baby to be over warm than under warm btw.

complexo · 04/05/2012 23:04

maybe she was a childminder and that is the way the children are dropped off for her.
I have had children come in whit no shoes on
Children with 2 thick coats (one spare) on a warm day and a jumper on a freezing day
Children with tights only (and a dress so small for their age that looked like a top)
Children with holes on their welly boots and no spare socks in their bags
Children with dirty, filthy clothing that I don't even want to come near.

Luckly for these parents I have a bag full of my own spare clothes in case their children need. I dont have spare shoes though.

Maybe some other childminder couldn't care less like the parents///

Grin at CharltonHairstyle - at least you get it!

backwardpossom · 04/05/2012 23:06

7 degrees is far too warm to have a babygro, snowsuit, blanket and raincover on. You should be careful not to overheat your baby.

Seriously, I live in the proper north and my DS would have been sweating with that on in the middle of winter.

redpanda13 · 04/05/2012 23:09

I am up north (scotland) and there is no need for a snowsuit. Plus it was a glorious day yesterday. No need for a snowsuit. Your poor baby must have been so uncomfortable.
Other woman may have been caught out. It was forecast to get nicer later and the sun did come out here. Wind could have cut you in half though!

CharltonHairstyle · 04/05/2012 23:09

Did I mention the TU t-shirt I was wearing? Grin

Cashncarry · 04/05/2012 23:12

oooh I LOVE TU stuff - amazing yet cheap!

iwantbrie · 04/05/2012 23:12

You'd have judged us a couple of years ago. DS & DH got caught in a rainstorm playing golf, DS got so wet his undies were soaking! We had to strip him off in the car park, wrap him in a spare coat from the boot & drive like crazy back to where we were staying. My point is, you don't know what they had been doing before you saw them. So YABU but in a nice way - you obviously care a lot about the welfare of other people. Are you in Scotland? It's the only place in the UK I can think of that might be snowsuit weather..

NicNocJnr · 04/05/2012 23:12

I don't know why people threaten to deck other mothers and accuse them of having PFBs etc -yes OPs baby was dressed too warmly but everybody has missteps - anyway are you sure OP doesn't have her own reasons for it - poorly baby etc. You werent' before you did exactly what you accused her of.

I have had days where it has been a shitstorm from morning to night. If anyone had taken a second to say 'do you want this, can I help?' I would have be grateful! I still am if someone offers me a hand. This is why I always offer to help- and I have had more people take me up on it than act like a bolshy child. I would rather be told no thanks, I've got this than leave a poor mum or dad wishing they had another pair of hands or just a friendly ear to vent to. It's sad people don't offer because they think an adult would deck them or pitch a toddler tantrum.

TheSockPuppet · 04/05/2012 23:13

How far up north op? Im in Scotland and like I said earlier it was hot yesterday, a few of the neighbours were sunbathing in their front gardens. She could have been visiting and spent the night and you caught her on her way home? :)

HexagonalQueenOfTheSummer · 04/05/2012 23:14

What's a parm?

iwantbrie · 04/05/2012 23:14

X posted with redpanda... That will teach me to believe BBC news!

LilQueenie · 04/05/2012 23:15

ok my child was out without socks on and it was raining badly. She pulled them off and they dropped on the pavement and got soaking. no way was she wearing them after that. She wont keep shoes on either. What kind of tights were they? Are you aware that some leggings look just like tights now? the jumper may well have been one of those shortish jumper dresses. as for the baby perhaps she didnt have a rain cover. TBH I have let my daughter out wearing similar as the baby in the pram for the reason I stated above and because she itches too easily with exczema that keeping her cool is a must.

LilQueenie · 04/05/2012 23:16

oh and Im in scotland where in the last wee while we have had hail, hot sun and wind within a few hours of each other.

backwardpossom · 04/05/2012 23:17

Are you in Scotland? It's the only place in the UK I can think of that might be snowsuit weather..

I'm in north of Scotland. It's not snowsuit weather.

CharltonHairstyle · 04/05/2012 23:19

Excellent quality, if you're lucky you can usually get things at a 25% discount.
they have snow suits in the sale at the moment

shesparkles · 04/05/2012 23:19

It's snowsuit weather on the east coast of Scotland, 6C with the wind from the north-it's been Baltic the last couple of days !

backwardpossom · 04/05/2012 23:22

It's cold, shesparkles, but I still wouldn't say it was snowsuit weather!

LoopyLoopsTootTootToots · 04/05/2012 23:23

"I don't know why people threaten to deck other mothers and accuse them of having PFBs etc"

Wow, did I miss the threats?!

Cashncarry · 04/05/2012 23:30

YY to the quality of TU stuff - much better than Tesco or Asda although I bought a snowsuit from Matalan and never used it

Strangely, I've only ever had one GAP thing - it was a weird looking purple fleece outfit bought by my high-earning and very up herself cousin. It didn't fit so took it back for a refund/bigger size and it had been bought for £1.50 in the sale!

fhdl34 · 04/05/2012 23:40

I think YABU to have your own child in a snowsuit. 7 degrees is chilly but certainly not snowsuit weather! As other posters have said, better to err on the side of too cold than too hot where babies are concerned.
