to think that sometimes a thread about a product will have more impact than an actual advert?

Yes, McDonalds. I think the OP inadvertantly made more of us want MaccyDs in one go than any advert could ever have done. But I find this all the time. People come on to complain about a certain food, and I want it. And so does everyone else. It is mostly food (bunch of gannets) but could be tv show, place to live, car, shop. One person complains they hate it, everyone else jumps in with examples of how fab it is and why and next thing you know, MN has been deserted so everyone can go and buy, buy, buy!

I don't consider myself to be influenced by advertising. I have never even noticed an ad for McDonalds. But I want one now more than I ever have.

funny isn't it

I think this is something advertisers are aware of, too. But I don't think that Mn is soooo big that it wold be worth it.

porcamiseria · 03/05/2012 10:42

i want a big mac now

Same goes for Sausage rolls, and the makers of mooncups should be paying MN an advertising fee too.

I bought a Soap and Glory foot file because of a thread but a) it's not edible and b) the thread was in praise of it it's brilliant by the way

We are all influenced by everything!

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 03/05/2012 11:03

Some manufacturers pay me to start the threads you know

Disclaimer: the above is a lie.

Its the same reasoning that companies pay celebrities to mention products on Twitter etc. I am trying to put McDonalds out of my mind at the minute after being on that thread Grin, although today is usually chippy tea day, so may give in after all!
