WTF do Hipp mean by social implications?

Both methods of feeding a baby are acceptable so fuck off with the whole acting like ff is poison! my dd is perfectly fine but i hate this constant making me feel like a failure because i failed to bf although i tried so so hard!

This thread is hilarious and is keeping me very entertained. Please keep it going.

pickles35 · 08/05/2012 14:54

Grin its gone through many twists and turns and now is mostly about the nutritional qualities of lemon curd.

loveisagirlnameddaisy · 08/05/2012 15:03

Well, I for one, LOVE lemon curd. Does that add to the debate? Or not?

(Sorry, I'm not usually a piss taker but I'm giving birth soon and I've gone all irreverential).

pickles35 · 08/05/2012 15:05

Ooo Good Luck. Nice you like it, as its a cheap source of extra calories which you may or may not need for breastfeeding.

loveisagirlnameddaisy · 08/05/2012 15:09

I'm not going to breastfeed because I hear it makes your boobs a bit saggy. This is NOT based on research, BTW!

(Okay, I'm going to go now before I get myself into real trouble).

entropygirl · 08/05/2012 15:09

stillor not so catchy Im afraid....

TheBigJessie · 08/05/2012 15:17

I've never tried lemon curd, but it sounds posh. Don't the Famous Five eat it, hand made by Cook?

Is it nice? Should I visit a shopping centre forthwith?

Bloody ridiculous, no wonder bf/ff threads end in bun fights

Arguing about the calorie content of lemon curd and how much it costs per calorie.

I think most people in rl have about as much interest in that as they do in how other people feed their babys

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 08/05/2012 16:44

I hate lemon curd. So am I saving myself some calories?

tiktok · 08/05/2012 16:57

You're saving yourself some money, amothersplace - on whatme's calculations it costs £192 per jar :)

tiktok · 08/05/2012 16:59

entropygirl - your nose is right, you know. Your maths was being dissed....

Moominsarescary · 08/05/2012 17:06

So tiktok out of curiosity, are people on low wages or benifits such as income support still less likely to bf and if so doesn't this show that financial implications of feeding their baby arnt realy taken into consideration by those less likely to bf

pickles35 · 08/05/2012 17:21

Not if the formula is free for those on benefits or partially subsidised, which a poster said up thread. Don't suppose its an issue then, unless lemon curd comes into play.

molly3478 · 08/05/2012 17:22

Moomin - If you are on benefits you get free formula milk. I got them just as baby was born last time for a couple of months as I was still at uni and I ffd as the milk was free as I didnt get other benefits but just tax credits as was getting student loan, this time I am bfing as we are both working as its cheaper.

tiktok · 08/05/2012 17:31

moomins, the research into why mothers make the choice to bf/ff (at least at the very start) indicates that the cost of formula milk is not a factor at all in the UK. When asked, women give other reasons, and those that want to ff are not deterred by the cost. Women on low incomes/benefits may be entitled to Healthy Start vouchers which can be used for formula milk, and usually covers all if not most of the price. If they bf, they can use the same vouchers for other foods www.healthystart.nhs.uk/

I take your point, BTW, about how bizarre it is that there is now a discussion about the calorie content of lemon curd - sounds mad. I think we got there by rational means, even so......:)

One poster whatme, has persistently refused to accept the evidence that breastfeeding is of low (no?) financial cost to the mother; she has continued, in the face of the evidence, to insist that the breastfed baby's calories have to be 'paid for' by an equivalent intake-and-more on the part of the mother, which is just not correct. She is a serial 'evidence denier' - so those of us who are not evidence deniers chip in, bravely facing her sneers and put downs :) , but admittedly chortling when she gets in a twist with those pesky decimal points.

I agree it must read most oddly, though......Confused

molly3478 · 08/05/2012 17:39

Tiktok - I live in a predominantly non bf area and most mums on the vouchers used the vouchers for formula as it was free, and most mums just above the threshold low wages worry about the cost of formula ime. Its really expensive if you have to buy that and nappies every week unless you have a fair bit of money.

Its definitely a factor, the main reason I said I was going to bf at the start of my pregnancy was so we could save the money to get the damp fixed in the bedrooms. That was why I was so determined this time.

tiktok · 08/05/2012 17:50

molly, I'm sure for individual women it is a factor - but it doesn't show up in the surveys, so it's not significant overall.

Formula is very over-priced. Non-marketed, it would be permanently cheaper (see USA, where own-brand formula is half the price of the 'big name' stuff).

Moominsarescary · 08/05/2012 18:11

Yes I said earlier on that with income support it was free, so didn't think it was a big factor.

LineRunner · 08/05/2012 18:19

The Lemon Curd Ultimatum. Followed by the Lemon Curd Supremacy.

loveisagirlnameddaisy · 08/05/2012 18:23

Surely the Lemon Curd Affair comes first? Wink

loveisagirlnameddaisy · 08/05/2012 18:24

Can I point out that I don't think the OP came back once after the first few posts? Do you think she anticipated creating a lemon-curd flavoured drama?

LineRunner · 08/05/2012 18:27

No-one expects the lemon curd inquisition.

Moominsarescary · 08/05/2012 18:35

I don't like lemon curd

TheBigJessie · 08/05/2012 18:36

No-one's bothered to describe the lemon curd taste experience yet? Does it taste like lemons?
