to be pissed off with how quick FA have jumped to Hodgson's defence?

A grown man with a speech impediment gets picked on in the press (pathetic, immature, lazy journalism) so the FA immediately jump to his defence and condemn the paper calling the story 'disrespectful and in poor taste'
I've yet to see the FA do anything about the disrespectful, poor taste of the inclusion of a convicted rapist in their 'team of the year'
It makes my blood boil!!

Well they are two HUGELY seperate issues?

Should they have just said 'aye go on pick on the guy with a speech impediment?!'

Kayano · 02/05/2012 17:18

Your op should say 'AIBU to be raging Ma at a rapists inclusion in team of the year after his conviction' Hmm

CogitoErgoSometimes · 02/05/2012 17:18

Can I recommend blood pressure medication? It's football.... an activity where 22 overpaid, grown men kicking a lump of leather around a lawn for 90 minutes is treated as if it's a matter of life and death. Frankly the FA lost touch with reality a long time ago. BP meds and a good book.

crypes · 02/05/2012 17:21

Its not lazy journalism either, its because the papers and most football supporters dont think his the best choice. The FA must of reduced the pay for manager.

Sirzy · 02/05/2012 17:24

To pick on someone because of a speech impediment is wrong. Why shouldn't they defend their employee?

crypes · 02/05/2012 17:30

Im afraid this is just the start for the FA and new manager. The FA dont listen to the football supporters. No doubt he will be called a turnip head or something equally silly before long.

ChippyMinton · 02/05/2012 17:36

He's a manager with international experience and a track record in turning around mediocre teams. Hopefully he is sensible enough to rise above all the childish carping. Only time will tell if he's a good choice.

SardineQueen · 02/05/2012 17:39

It does seem a little odd, now you come to mention it.

mayorquimby · 02/05/2012 17:44

Fair play to them. The red-tops are just pissed off because their vastly less qualified best mate didn't get the job and won't be giving them interviews through a car window for the summer.

ealir · 02/05/2012 18:18

YABU the FA have to try and fend off criticism over the manager they have appointed. The media can be cruel and to be honest they will look for anything to try and get at Hodgson as the man they were backing Harry Redknapp (who has always been most journalists dream) was not appointed.

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 02/05/2012 18:26

What mayorquimby said. The meeja loves old 'arry...

By the way, Evans was voted into the team of the year before he was convicted. Don't agree with it at all, but not so simple as it seems from the OP

complexnumber · 02/05/2012 18:33

One's a legal issue, it may be that the FA have to be very careful what they say.

The other is just wanky journalism.

EdithWeston · 02/05/2012 18:33

The despicable inclusion of a convicted rapist in the League One team if their was, however, nothing to do with the FA. That 'honour' was given by the PFA which is a separate body.

EdithWeston · 02/05/2012 18:34

Sorry "League One Team of the Year" (DYAC)

Spartak · 02/05/2012 19:01

OP, do you not think the headline/story used is disrespectful and in poor taste then?

Whatmeworry · 02/05/2012 19:03

Well they pretty much have to. But its only football so who gives a fuck?

BonnieBumble · 02/05/2012 19:05

Of course they should defend him. It is a completely separate issue. I have to say that I hadn't even noticed any speech impediment.

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 02/05/2012 19:06

There was a bit on (is it still called) Newsround on CBBC earlier about the press mocking him for his speech problems. I had no idea who he was or anything about it until it was on, but they made the very good point that children at school who have communication problems can get picked on and made of fun of and bullied for it already. The press doing it very publicly to someone "important" does nothing at all to help stop this happening. It's a good thing for people to defend him, and say long an loudly why the press are wrong to mock him for something he can't help.

lisaro · 02/05/2012 19:07

Shouldn't you be pleased that they stuck up for someone with a speech impediment? Two wrongs do not make a right.

TheFallenMadonna · 02/05/2012 19:10

As somebody else said, it's not their team of the year.

CowboysGal · 02/05/2012 19:25

I think the headline is pathetic. I think it is lazy journalism as I'm sure his speech impediment has no bearing on his ability to do the job and is therefore snide bullying. On the radio and television today I've heard the FA quickly stand up for their manager (and yes they should) but I've not heard, seen or indeed read much about how glorifying a man convicted of a very, very serious crime is disrespectful or in poor taste.
I didn't ask AIBU to be raging at Evans' inclusion in team of the year because I have no doubt that my level of disgust at that is entirely reasonable.
I appreciate that they are 2 different matters but yes maybe BP medication is required because the fact that the FA have been so quiet about something so awful makes me very angry every time I hear it.
I wasn't aware until edith pointed it out that the pfa and the fa were not connected but either way I am massively disappointed to have not had a similar reaction from the fa with regards to the Evans inclusion in an honours list. The only comment I've seen to date is that his inclusion was made on merit and it would have caused more 'fuss' to have removed him from the list.

2 different issues.

Re today's issue - what MayorQuimby said.
Not necessarily what thinking football fans think at all - look at the new manager's CV before lapping up what tabloids say.
