.........as dS1 and dS2 trample straight through the remnants of the building site as does the pram. He thinks I'm being unreasonable suggesting he maybe does it a bit further up the garden.

You are not being unreasonable. Can you say to him that even though he thinks it is unreasonable, could he please do it for you as it is important to you? And that's what you do in a relationship (works both ways obviously). I got that from relationship counseling websites when I went through similar.

My DP used to do it at the FRONT DOOR! So lovely to step out in my pretty ballet pumps into mud/concrete/shite, i went fucking mental kindly asked him not to do it anymore on pain of death and he now takes his boots off before driving home.

Rosie, its all outside the front door too, and today when I get in from work all over my lovely new doormat.

Mrs Truper, fine advice, will try that sometimes, I just get in a silent rage, like I have now!!

Prop a broom outside the door, so he can stomp, then sweep the dirt out of the pathway of kids and pram?
