to plant a hazelnut tree when my friends son has a nut allergy?

my good friends ds has a nut allergy. he comes round to play at our house a fair bit. I want to plant a hazelnut tree in the garden, but obviously dont want to if it will trigger his allergy. Is it just ingestion which causes the reaction, or could playing in the garden where there is a nut tree do it also?

And again people comparing life threatening allergies with harmless nettle rash

Many people die from wasp and bee stings so they don't 'cope in gardens.' A friends dh bit into a sandwich last year and their was a wasp in it - if that happened to my ds he would be in serious trouble (we've been told to watch for bee stings as well as nuts)

Ds still goes to parks, the country, restaurants etc BUT it is often accompanied with the worry that he might get seriously ill - it's hard work trying to work out what is a serious risk - get it wrong and sometimes there's not a second chance.

And that's not over reacting, it's being realistic.

My parents have a gorgeous Japanese maple, it's beautiful, the leaves are almost salmon pink at the moment.

I think you need 2 to get fruit off it, anyway - so you'd have 2 potentially lethal bushes in your garden... :o

I'd plant an apple tree or a fruit bush, personally.

wow scatter ive just had a lookat japanesemaples online-they are stunning!! The practical side of me is struggling with getting a tree that doesnt bear any food! but if anything willconvince meit will be one of those-beautiful!

fluffy you are dead right-i only discovered that today whilst searching for allergy info! but pretty sure there would be one somewhere in the vicinity-not sure how close it would have to be tomake pollenation possible
