who's been telling my 22 month old ds to not touch his own willy?

DS aka PFB is at nursery 3 days a week and is really happy there.

Apart from his time there he's always with me or DH.

Recently he's been said 'don't touch willy' a few times while i'm changing him, he'll shake his head and wave his hand and say 'no, don't touch'. It seems like his telling himself not to, rather than asking telling me not to (i don't anyway), so I can only assume that someone at nursery has told him not to touch his willy while they're changing him and he's copying what they said

It seems odd to me

I'd have thought that it's more important not to give the little lad a complex about his touching his willy than to be avoiding washing hands afterwards. TBH i don't always insist on washing hands at home, although I do stop him from touching if he's covered in poo. I'd never say 'don't touch your willy' though

We're wondering if we should be asking at the nursery if this is their actual policy

Hmm, maybe they're trying to keep his hands clean when they are cahnging his nappy?

WorraLiberty · 01/05/2012 21:46

Maybe it's sore?

Have you checked the foreskin (if he has one) for any redness or blisters?

My boys used to get thrush after they'd finished a course of Anti biotics

Or if they'd had a stomach bug, their wee used to burn/irritate for a day or two.

MsPaperbackWriter · 01/05/2012 21:46

Simple way to find out... Ask them!

MerryMarigold · 01/05/2012 21:47

Likewise. Keeping hands clean, especially if it's a poo nappy. Must be annoying to wash kids hands everytime you change a nappy, and not necessary either unless they're 'fiddling'. Don't worry, I doubt the 'complex' will last once he's running round in pants and has easy access. I tell mine they can fiddle away, but they need to wash hands before touching anything else...they do think twice now Grin.

kittyandthefontanelles · 01/05/2012 21:47

I'd definitely have to find out where this is coming from.

MerryMarigold · 01/05/2012 21:48

Ps. You may want to tell him this yourself when he's 16 and walking round the supermarket. Just a thought!

CrumpettyTree · 01/05/2012 21:48

I think it's sensible to ask children not to touch their willy if they are covered in poo.

cookielove · 01/05/2012 21:48

Agree with Chaos

Sirzy · 01/05/2012 21:48

I tell Ds not to touch his willy when he has a dirty nappy, not really somewhere I want his hands. Not really sure what your issue is with it. Hands away at nappy time is a sensible thing. When you get to potty training it changes anyway.

EverybodysSleepyEyed · 01/05/2012 21:51

Maybe he was having his nappy changed and grabbed his willy, did a wee and sprayed it everywhere?

DS never put his hand on his willy but DD (21m) will try and grab a wipe to help! Not much help when she's covered in poo!

Starwisher · 01/05/2012 21:52

I agree with crumpetytree

NovackNGood · 01/05/2012 21:53

I doubt it's thrush unless someone who has it has been changing him.

redpanda13 · 01/05/2012 21:57

NovackNGood - wrong!

CharlieUniformNovemberTango · 01/05/2012 21:57

I have said don't touch if he has done a poo. But generally he always has his hands down his pant just now so I'm confidant no lasting damage has been done.

still giggling at his big willy show with his peppy pig magnifying glass he got this morning

greenlegs · 01/05/2012 22:20

I did say I wouldn't let him touch if he's covered in poo, but I'd say Poo! don't touch

Hadn't thought about the thrush issue

It seems a shame to me for the first thing you learn about having a willy is not to touch it

I wouldn't worry, it will not discourage him long term! Grin

Penguinface · 01/05/2012 22:31

greenlegs, I really don't think that the first thing you learn about having a willy is not to touch it Grin Grin Grin

AllYoursBabooshka · 01/05/2012 22:31

I think it's better to say "Hands up high, Don't touch the poo!" rather than "Don't touch your willy".

I agree with Worra though, He may be sore.

MerryMarigold · 01/05/2012 22:32

I think you're overthinking things a bit. Mine pull theirs to bits in the bath (sometimes each other's), doesn't yours? I sometimes wonder how it's stayed on my boys Grin!

FrauGrau · 01/05/2012 22:41

The more you make an issue of it, the more of an issue this becomes

lurkerspeaks · 01/05/2012 23:45

Wait 'til he is touching his willy at the dinner table 'cos it "feels nice".

Then you will be asking him not to touch it...

(Real conversation with my friends 3yo. I really hadn't expected to get into the politics of inappropriate masturbation when I got left in charge.... he doesn't appear, 3 years later, to have a complex as result of my request to stop touching his willy at mealtimes...)

JarethTheGoblinKing · 02/05/2012 00:46

Ha, wait until you're in Waitrose and he's pulling on it, trousers round ankles, daxed grin on face.

Believe me. You don't need to worry about this

Firawla · 02/05/2012 00:54

I don't see anything wrong with this, you are making a fuss about nothing

flyingspaghettimonster · 02/05/2012 05:28

God, I don't care if my.kid never touches his again, in fact it would be a blessing. He just turned 3, is almost permanently "butt nay" (naked) because he takes everything off every toilet trip, and if he carries on the way he is going it'll be 3ft long and thin as fettuccine! I seriously didn't know how stretchy they are... He can wrap it right round his finger, helicopter it all about, pull it till I worry it will snap like a rubber band.

In conclusion, I probably say 'don't touch your willy!' About 50 times a day. If your toddler is obeying this, I would just be grateful. :)

ecclesvet · 02/05/2012 09:05

"it'll be 3ft long and thin as fettucine"

FSM, you owe me a new computer monitor because this one just got coffee sprayed all over it. Grin
