To take a faulty tv back to Asda or should I send it to the manufacturers

Bought a lcd tv/dvd player for my dd on christmas eve from asda, been working 100% fine but suddenly it won't accept any dvd's or cd's,
When you put one in it just says no disk,
It has been less than 6 months since being bought, I still have the box and the receipt, would I be unreasanable to take it to the store I purchased it from and ask for a new one or refund if they don't have them anymore or do I have to contack the makers/manufacturers?

Ok Thankyou, That is what I thought, been trying to find out terms and conditions on electrical items but it's so confusing, There is nothing on the receipt about it,
Will just take it back on sat and see what they say, they do still have the same tv's in there but it was on special offer when I bought it so not sure what they will say,

Now I think Tesco have some sort of deal whereby if you buy a tv and it's faulty you get double your money back. Something like that. One of my students works there and says it's one of those things you have to know to ask for, as they're told not to mention it.

Asda is highly competitive - couldn't you ask them whether they have the same conditions?

Hmm can't find that online. But yes, take it back to Customer Service in Asda. Can you manage to carry it?

DH used to work in the home electrics part of Asda so just asked him. He says if you have the receipt and it's still within guarantee (both of which yes in your case) then they should not even query returning it for you. He says they wouldn't even test it to see what the fault is, they would just take your word for it! HTH

I have exactly the same problem with a telly from Asda. Eventually I managed to get the dvd working but it has no sound and I just can't figure out why.
I have lost the receipt Sad

I might call them tomorrow and ask what happens in these situations before I go down there, I do still have the box and receipt, I just hope they will exchange or refund as my dd loved it and has since taken over my room to watch her dvd's which has put me out a little lol

That sounds very promising keepthechangeyoufilthyanimalI hunted for ages for the receipt but found it thank goodness,

We have tried many dvd's and cd's on it but it just starts to load and then says no disk detected,

I am gonna go on sat as that when the other half can drive me there as could not manage it on the bus , lol

If you hadn't had the receipt and you'd paid by card, they could take the details from your bank statement and find the receipt that way.

I'd take it back to asda, similar thing happened with my grandparents tv and they just exchanged it
