to want to get my nipples pierced

I have, since a teenager, hankered after pierced nipples. I never had the nerve. DC s and BF scuppered any thoughts along those lines. DH is intrigued rather than enthusiastic. Now I am 37 the yearning is still there. Should I? Is this an early mid life crisis that I'll get over? I don't have other piercings apart from ear lobes.

Yes deffo get one done first, the left obviously Grin and see how that goes

TheSmallClanger · 30/04/2012 23:17

Give it a go - you can always take the ring out if you hate it. Give it time first though.

DH used to have one of his pierced, and I found it quite alluring.

WaitingForMe · 01/05/2012 20:19

Body piercing is naff and teenage and common...

... and I absolutely love having a pierced belly button and it sitting there under my smart clothes while I act all grown up and professional Grin

BorisJohnsonsHair · 02/05/2012 21:06

I don't think I could stand the embarrassment of sitting topless in the window at Claire's Accessories though.

fallenangle · 02/05/2012 21:36

Boris I hadn't thought of the drawback of being seen going into Claire's Accessories without an accompanying child.

Justfeckingdoit · 02/05/2012 21:42

Your nipples, your choice :)

WorryDoll · 02/05/2012 21:58

I had mine done when I was younger and much smaller of nork, they were fine then. I've had to take them out a few years ago because as my boobs got larger the jewellery really used to get caught on bras and becoming very sore.

I don't know if that's a common thing but worth thinking about.

thebody · 03/05/2012 10:16

Omg!!!!! My pain threshold is soooo low. How can u all.??

Debeez · 03/05/2012 10:49

I've got both my done and love them dearly. Previous post about infection is null an void in my opinion. You can get infections from a cut to the finger if you don't keep it clean. Go to a good body piercing place, follow the after care instructions and enjoy your adorned and super sensitive nipples.

Just be careful of those skooshy things you wash yourself with that come free with dove bodywash sets. It's really hard to actually pull it out but those things will give it a good try.

Debeez · 03/05/2012 10:53

Can I just add, I once got mine caught on my partners too. That was awkward and painful.

catsmother · 03/05/2012 11:41

I had mine done until I gave birth, then took them out to breastfeed. 15 months later and they'd partially closed. I'd have them done again but can't really justify the expense ATM.

I loved the way they looked and felt. Definitely no loss of sensitivity - I think they increased it. I also had my tongue done on the same day .....

and other bits and bobs at other times

OneHandFlapping · 03/05/2012 11:58

This thread would put me off having any area of my body I cared about pierced...

oldraver · 03/05/2012 16:14

I had one of mine done and it did take a long time to heal and was prone to flaring up so would have to start with bathing it again. That said it did make my nipple more sensitive and they are sensitive orgasmic anyway.

It came out when I was bed bound for a few days and I decided to leave it out as was planning to bf. Two years after giving up they still seep a little --if I give them a squeeze so the piercer wont re-do it yet

PleaseChooseAnotherNN · 03/05/2012 16:20

Ouch I had mine done and it hurt. I took it out but I can't remember why now. I don't miss it. I also had my tummy pierced twice and ny tounge but I only ever wear jewellery in my ears these days.

TalHotBlond · 03/05/2012 16:21

Birds I am in shock!

You have always seemed so, well, sensible from your posts!

TwinkleTwinklyStars · 03/05/2012 16:22

I have mine done and I love them.
I have had them for over 10 years and I cant see myself taking them out any time soon.

If you want them I say go for it. you can all ways take them out if you dont like them.

MrsMuddyPuddles · 03/05/2012 20:29

I'm glad you asked this so I didn't have to it's something I've just started considering.

fallenangle · 03/05/2012 21:25

So far more or less everyone who has had them done is in favour. I do understand the absolute necessity of a good experienced piercer. Can I ask those who have had them done what your reason was. Mine is a combination of the look of the things (I am not well endowed with nork but I am well endowed with nipple) and what I hope will be the fee,l plus a bit of, ahem, psychological excitement.
