Breastfeeding profile pictures- more than likely will cause a bunfight

Im pro breastfeeding- 100%. But I really don't like seeing a woman with an exposed breast (and nipple showing) feeding her child as a profile pic. In a photo album fine, but for people to see that photo when they post on a friend of theres wall or comment on someone elses status with no choice but to see it is not right imo.
AIBU? (I know I am really but just wanted to muster up a discussion to distract me from decoratingwhile away the hours)

Why would u want to put it as your pic? Weird just like the breastfeeding groups that go round together all wearing the breast is best tops.weird

gramercy · 30/04/2012 16:14

By "beatific" I mean having that slightly cat that's got the cream look, hoping that others are admiring or even envying you.

When I was breastfeeding I'd be... feeding. And carrying on a conversation, or trying to eat my dinner, or (with dd) talking to ds... or a million things. What I wasn't doing was trying to catch people's eye (specifically other women's) hoping that they'd be blown away by what a fantastic specimen of motherhood I was.

As I said before, it can be bragging in just the same way as talking in a foghorn voice in the library about how your 3-year-old is sooooo past Harry Potter.

startail · 30/04/2012 16:17

YABU
Because you wouldn't object if she was bottle feeding her DC!

SeaHouses · 30/04/2012 16:20

It isn't comparable to a 3 year old reading Harry Potter; that would be an extraordinary achievement.

Looking pleased while breast feeding is similar to looking pleased while enjoying an ice cream with you child. And I do feel a bit of envy towards people who a. have young children and b. are breast feeding because it is lovely and mine are older now.

It is a right miserable world to live in if people feel they shouldn't look like they might be enjoying themselves in public.

WhaleOilBeefHookedIWill · 30/04/2012 16:23

Tiddles sums up how I feel about it. Strangely enough most people with profile pictures of their child breastfeeding tend to 'like' a whole heap of breastfeeding pages, breastfeeding campaigns etc, people very rarely seem to just want to post a picture of them breastfeeding because they find it the best photo they have

seahouses nodding my head off at your posts....

I mean all those icecream eaters are just oozing smugness that they aren't dairy intolerant aren't they!

BFing is a big part of having a newborn. If you are the kind of person who wants to update your profile to include your baby at a moment when they weren't either screaming or sleeping then Bfing is actually quite likely.

A picture of a woman smiling and BFing no more says 'I am proud of BFing' than a picture of a woman smiling and FFing says 'I am proud of FFing'.

People smile while feeding babies....projecting your insecurities onto them is just plain rude.

thezoobmeister · 30/04/2012 17:46

entropy that BFing woman isn't really smiling, it's just a bit of trapped wind ...

I am still totally enraged at the idea that a mum should have to worry about other peoples' paranoia-fuelled interpretations of her facial expression.

Darth Vader never had to worry about stuff like this ... sigh

entropygirl · 30/04/2012 23:45

hmmm good point...maybe discrete breast feeding is more about wearing a sack over your head then a blanket smothering covering your baby......

NaturalVanessa · 17/02/2016 20:29

well i have put a brelfie as my profile picture. i think its natural & something to be proud of. Its quite tasteful(hopefully) with no nipple showing & i've had some lovely coments asbout it

MumOnTheRunCatchingUp · 17/02/2016 20:31

Its dull now.... Dull dull dull.... Done to death, like this thread!

Peyia · 17/02/2016 20:36

Is this Noobulula in disguise??

DickDewy · 17/02/2016 20:39

Zombie thread!

If you can see nipple when a woman is breastfeeding she isn't really doing it very well.

WanderingTrolley1 · 17/02/2016 20:47

Yanbu.

goodnightdarthvader1 · 17/02/2016 20:53

Christ, WHY would you revive a thread like this, of all threads? Not getting enough attention on Facebook? Hmm

goodnightdarthvader1 · 17/02/2016 20:54

Another bunfight starting in 3... 2...

Sallystyle · 17/02/2016 20:57

To bump an old thread is one thing.

To bump an old thread just to post a photo of you breastfeeding is quite another.

Not because it's offensive or anything, but who gives a shit about your FB profile picture?

Faye12345 · 17/02/2016 21:01

My friend does this and if im honest it makes me uncomfortable but im unsure why. I wouldnt put a pic on fb breastfeeding

goodnightdarthvader1 · 17/02/2016 21:05

I'm all for normalising BFing. But there's normalising and there's attention-seeking. Photos of BFing on your timeline, not attention-seeking. BFing in public, not attention-seeking. Reviving a 4 yo thread to post a selfie with your boob out: attention-seeking.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 17/02/2016 21:06

Perhaps MN security has improved so much that Jeffrey can't hack anymore so his new cunning plan is to resurrect old threads hence forcing us to repeat the same conversations over and over again . . .he doesn't realise that happens naturally on MN anyway Grin parking;neighbours;MILs,etc

ghostyslovesheep · 17/02/2016 21:09

Here's Norman and some boobs
