Breastfeeding profile pictures- more than likely will cause a bunfight

Im pro breastfeeding- 100%. But I really don't like seeing a woman with an exposed breast (and nipple showing) feeding her child as a profile pic. In a photo album fine, but for people to see that photo when they post on a friend of theres wall or comment on someone elses status with no choice but to see it is not right imo.
AIBU? (I know I am really but just wanted to muster up a discussion to distract me from decoratingwhile away the hours)

YABU and narrowminded.

TheRhubarb · 30/04/2012 12:43

BTW, who gives a shit if someone doesn't like your profile pic? I don't particularly want to see someone's brat grinning at me every time I comment on their timeline, or their bloody pet dog or some crap arty photo such as a pair of pink shoes that they obviously thinks sums them up well. But hey ho, it's THEIR profile so they can do what the feck they want and if I'm offended by it, well that's a choice I make.

I'd rather see a pic of a mother feeding her baby than some of the crap profile pics I have to bloody endure.

I hate facebook.

CailinDana · 30/04/2012 12:45

Unless the mum in the picture is totally topless, how on earth can you see her boob? I know plenty of mums who pop out their entire boob to feed but once the baby is latched on you would hardly know it. I would just think it's a slightly odd picture to post as you can't really see the baby when it's feeding, but perhaps they're trying to promote bfing and in that case good on them.

2shoes · 30/04/2012 12:47

yanbu
some people just like attention

KeemaNaanAndCurryOn · 30/04/2012 12:47

Here's mine BiscuitBiscuit

HillyWallaby · 30/04/2012 12:47

I don't care either way but who does this? I have never seen it.

MustControlFistOfDeath · 30/04/2012 12:50

'..for people to see that photo when they post on a friend of theres wall or comment on someone elses status with no choice but to see it is not right imo.'

Gosh, how would people EVER recover from the shock of seeing something like that.

OP I fear you might swoon if you ever saw someone bfing in public.

www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2012/feb/23/breastfeeding-images-facebook-missing

it not really allowed on facebook, but yabu its only a picture of a baby feeding

TheGruffalosbitch · 30/04/2012 12:52

Why is it more attention seeking than a profile pic of someone dressed up to go on a night out, or on the beach, or a pic of a very cute baby or a brand new pair of shoes? All pics are put on to get attention or what's the point of putting pics up at all?

UnChartered · 30/04/2012 12:53

how the hell can you say 'i'm 100% pro breastfeeding' and then come out with this (prepares to use new word for 2nd time today) shitwittery?

TheRhubarb · 30/04/2012 12:53

Any public pic of a mum breastfeeding is bloody brilliant as it challenges these outdated and ridiculous views that breasts are sexual objects that should be hidden away. Are we that narrow-minded that every time we see a woman's breast we are either offended or repulsed? As for the poor woman, she is judged as attention-seeking when actually, she's bloody brave for publicly challenging peoples outdated views on breastfeeding.

For all those who have their kids as their profile pics - why? Why have public pics on your kids on facebook? Why force people who have no particular interest in your kids to look at them everytime they comment? Perhaps you are attention-seeking???

Ditto with bloody pets.

If a photo of a woman breastfeeding really offends you then you need to question why and look at your own profiles whilst you are at it.

MustControlFistOfDeath · 30/04/2012 12:54

silly me should of put a huge disclaimer DONT OPEN LINK IF OFFENDED

LadyBeagleEyes · 30/04/2012 13:07

I quite happily breastfed in public, and at home in front of friends/inlaws.
I'm sure there's even pictures, but I don't make them public.
I await all of you in support to update your profiles now though.

PatronSaintOfDucks · 30/04/2012 13:09

I can understand when somebody, for instance, does not like looking at pictures of dead mice or verrucas. But boobs and children drinking milk from them? It's like not liking pictures of houses. You may not be overjoyed to see one, but are they really that bad? Hmm

NotSureICanCarryOn · 30/04/2012 13:10

Actually there has a really big campain on facebook re photos of women breasfeeding (even if there is NO nipple in sight) being removed and people being banned for not following the guidelines. Not just profile pictures but any pictures (incl a picture of a woman from an amazonian tribe bfing).
There has also being a really big campain from pro-breastfeeding groups to say that it was completely crazy, bf is normal and there is no reason to hide it etc...

the only thing is, that was a good month agao (there was some manifestations planned in front of facebook office in several capitals in the world, incl london and in australia). So I think you are a bit late there OP... Wink

TheRhubarb · 30/04/2012 13:11

I breastfed on TV ladybeagle. Oh yes.

MustControlFistOfDeath · 30/04/2012 13:16

On TV!

TiddlesTheNaughtyTortoise · 30/04/2012 13:18

Oh, see now whilst I don't appreciate an eyefull of breast when i log into Facebook, I think it would be really wrong to ban it.

I think it's in poor taste rather than downright wrong.

McHappyPants2012 · 30/04/2012 13:21

I really can see why people take offence

WorraLiberty · 30/04/2012 13:21

I once played Scrabble on Facebook for 2hrs with a man who had his cock out in his profile photo.

He must have been gutted that he actually had to point it out to me before I blocked him Grin

CailinDana · 30/04/2012 13:24

That is bloody hilarious Worra Grin

McHappyPants2012 · 30/04/2012 13:25

that can't not can Blush

Shakey1500 · 30/04/2012 13:29

Worra Grin

I'm not sure how I feel about it to be honest. It certainly doesn't offend me, that I do know. But I find it a strange choice of profile picture. I do have a reaction to it. That could be me being oversensitive though as I was unable to BF my DS and felt guilty for a long time (and still do to a lesser extend) so in my skewed mind I imagine (unreasonably) saying "Look at meeeee! I managed to breast feed"
