TWO!!

the "we hate all foreigners" party, aka BNP
the "we hate poles" party , aka UKIP

how do immigrants feel reading this when they drop through the letter box

fucking hell, I know that recessional conditions breed facism but this has genuinely disturbed me

Makes me squirm too. But we are a democracy - tolerance extends even to those you don't like.

We have to hope everyone votes so the 'nut cases' don't get in.

Voting complacency is what they rely on

RubyGates · 29/04/2012 08:57

Don't vote for them then.
If they lose their deposits they will know that their brand of politics is not wanted in a huge multi-cultural metropolis.
But democracy exisits so that everyone can have their say.
Idiotic ideas can then be held up to ridicule.
YABU... to be shocked.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 29/04/2012 08:57

Surely at least 2 in 7 of the general population hold the same views. Democracy innit.

EdlessAllenPoe · 29/04/2012 09:00

given that the BNP and UKIP don't possess 2/7 of the national vote, this is because they are protest parties that make publicity capital merely by fielding a candidate...

though i do wonder (not a londoner but for local elections) Is there any way i could use my vote to actually reduce the UKIP/BNP vote?

Softlysoftly · 29/04/2012 09:01

What I hmost wore is when I speak to people who do not consider themselves racist and are my friends, me, the woman with a mixed race daughter, who vote BNP and UKIP. When I question it, they have fallen for the "well it's not racist is it? Their leaflet says they aren't racist they just want to make the country better for those already here innit?".

That is what scares me, that previous middle grounders are sucked in. Oh and my reaction? It makes me physically terrified for the future of my daughter, it makes me futilely angry and if they speak to me directly I will not be responsible for my boot connecting with their face

DialsMavis · 29/04/2012 09:02

Look at the people standing for the London assembly, there is the national front of London or similar. Have these views always been popular and I simply don't come into contact with them? Or has there been a definite resurgence?

AThingInYourLife · 29/04/2012 09:02

Voting complacency is what the major parties rely on.

Softlysoftly · 29/04/2012 09:03

*hate more, not hmost wore anger got my typing

Realised I didn't respond to op as well which is sadly YABU to be shocked, democracy means they can, idiocy means they will.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 29/04/2012 09:04

Not reduce but apparently rather than ranking them last it is better to leave box completely blank and that it gets completely ignored in the sorting process as opposed to being ranked (albeit low)

Maybe they don't get 2/7 vote because people who think like that also are to ignorant to be arsed to vote?

porcamiseria · 29/04/2012 09:05

oh a definate resurgance, mainly linked to

EU immigration (ie east Europe)
london riots

Its a sign of the times, I just imagined how some of my neighbours must feel reading them thats all. and my DP!

I was amused to see that the BNP candidate washimself a Johnny Foreigner (evidently the sort who likes to close the door behind himself). Also, that he had to underline sections of text so that one didn't have to read all them words (or perhaps bullet points are just too foreign (uh-oh, get me, I just italicised something! Just chuck me out, alone with my Johnny Foreigner DH!). Grin

DialsMavis · 29/04/2012 09:08

"And all the Muslims wanting their Sharia law over here" stop reading the Daily Fail mum, it's all bollocks, I don't understand why you can't see that.....Hmm

porcamiseria · 29/04/2012 09:13
