to think this may be why men aren't so keen on primary teaching as a career?

Not really. I think men aren't keen on teaching for the same reasons they're not terribly keen on nursing. As different careers become feminised, they're seen as having a lower status. Teaching attracts little money for the level of qualification and dedication it requires, and the promotion opportunities are low.

I think the problem is low status too.

Oh I'm not surprised, 2 male teachers I've known have had their careers ended due to false sexual abuse claims . . . vv sad. The one I know whose still teaching won't do any physical contact or be alone in the classroom alone with girls . . . who can blame him ?
Its a shame be cause its so important for kids to have a male role model in life (since a lot of kids don't have a father at home).
Also the money is $hit . . . for the amount of work that they do . . .

I think it's both. I know this is a concern for lots of men. My DP was interested in volunteering with the Scouts (his friend volunteers for the Brownies and got him interested, but Brownies is female only) but he's worried about being questioned about his motives. Irrational and unlikely, perhaps, but it is a real concern for him.

Hmmmm...I think if it was a really genuine concern for lots of men, then they would be in other low status caring jobs that are mainly staffed by women and they'd be stepping up far more with the unpaid caring roles that women take on as well.

They seem to get over it when it comes to things like sports coaching where they have a real interest as well, so I think there's often a bit of whining going on.

Not in the case of your partner, UBW, but as a general rule.
