I think some people haven't even looked to find the settings and realise it can be turned off..... It took me ages to work out that I could shut off the beeps without turning the whole phone to Silent mode

This makes me stabby.

Could they have eye problems and the beep reassures them that they have pressed the button hard enough, because they can't be sure they're reading the screen properly?

First thing I do when I get a new phone - turn off all the sounds except incoming text, text delivery report and ringtone!

It's always the first thing I do - turn the beep off! It really is annoying!

I turn the key beep off straight away too, mainly so I can text under the table in boring meetings

Annoyingly there is no way to turn off the shutter sound on blackberries, for corporate espionage reasons apparently [which I discovered when I wanted to take some photos of competitor brands incognito, so i guess it worked lol]

Think it depends on the situation; Quick text when it's quite loud/only one short text in a quiet situation = couldn't give a Tooting mcTootypants. Epic epistle while sitting on quiet train carriage = massive douchebag who is consciously or unconsciously screaming, "LOOK!! LOOK AT ME!!! I HAVE LOOOOADS OF FRIENDS WHO I TEXT ALLLL THE TIME!!! FRIENDS GALORE!! I'VE GOT FRIENDS POURING FROM EVERY ORIFICE!! I SHOULD TELL THE WORLD ABOUT MY GOOD FORTUNE TO HAVE A TRUCK LOAD OF FRIENDS THROUGH ALL SOCIAL NETWORKING MEDIUMS..." etc.
