TheRhubarb · 26/04/2012 10:53

You know that deep fat fryer right? Well does it do your chips crispy? Cause we've got one and I am very disappointed with the chips. We used to use a pan and the chips were lovely and crispy every single time. Now we have a deep fat fryer and we've tried several methods including taking them out a few times and putting them in again, starting them off on a medium setting then turning up high for the last bit etc but they are NEVER as crispy as they were when we used the pan.

We might dump the deep fat fryer and go back to our tried and tested highly dangerous chip pan.

doormat · 26/04/2012 10:55

rhubarb mine are crispy but through putting them on high at the end, like you said taking them in and out lol... but it is an old one ..which i prefer.. i do my jarg kfc in the new fryer lol x

So what heat do you put them on at the beginning, how often do you take them out and how long for?

Sorry for the cross questioning but as I'm sure you will agree, getting chips right is very very important.

beatofthedrum · 26/04/2012 11:17

You've just made me feel hard done by so fished a big cream cake out the fridge and scoffed it within one min with a cup of coffee! Enjoy your chippies!

maddening · 26/04/2012 11:32

doormat · 26/04/2012 11:39

Cheers doormat. The deep fat fryer is on borrowed time though, if it doesn't buck its ideas up then the reliable old chip comes back out of retirement!
