To think that today's news offers a glimmer of hope

here that Madeleine could still be alive. I have always thought the worse but this being bought up again now seems to be quite out of the blue and i can't help but hope.

I know its bad form, but i just wanted to share the glimmer

If you post 1.anything implying the McCanns are involved in their DDs abduction or 2. anything "beyond the pale" or breaking Talk guidlines, it will be deleted.

Or (3) if you make a comment that there is a much more robust discussion on Twitter, (which John Prescott approved of on the Today program this am), judging by what got me deleted.

Its one thing being deleted for casting aspersions, but when you think its possibly libellous just to say others, elsewhere, dispute the Official Line, that is very scary!

Floggingmolly · 27/04/2012 18:04

What reasons did they give for their refusal to take part in a reconstruction at the time? Surely one staged now would be far less effective given that everyone's memories are now five years old Confused

Portofino · 27/04/2012 18:11

I do wonder if they had all had a few and their recollection of events and timing is more hazy than they stated at the time.....

Whatmeworry · 27/04/2012 18:25

Just to remind everyone...Panorama tonight will link the McCanns, the Murdochs and the Government - see here

To quote the Torygraph:

"In 2011 The Sun printed an open letter on their front page from The McCanns to Mr Cameron, appealing to him as a parent to agree to a review.

But tonight Panorama will claim there was also much more going on behind the scenes to try to influence the Prime Minister.

Downing Street sources have revealed to the programme that influence was being exerted on Number 10 by News International and by The Sun newspaper, as well as by the McCanns"

Presumably it's on iPlayer.

Whatmeworry · 27/04/2012 18:58

Interesting - the one BBC webpage said tonight, another Monday - and they were both wrong!

Anyway, I've now gone to the Panorama Programme page ( see here - also on iPlayer ), and it says tomorrow night on BBC World News at 8.30 and then at 2.30am on Thurs 3 may on BBC One.

doormat · 27/04/2012 18:58

There has been a reconstruction!! I remember watching it.

If you google it was shown on channel 4 in May 2009.

Again incorrect information is being posted, but hey ho you are only pondering and wondering and asking questions so what's the problem? Hmm

pumpkinsweetie · 27/04/2012 19:18

Another of my posts has been deleted but why?
I was stating my opinion that was all-this is getting all the more odd

Hairytoes · 27/04/2012 19:18

That wasnt an official police reconstruction

Hairytoes · 27/04/2012 19:21

And if it is the 'reconstruction' I am thinking of, you had 2 of the main players contradicting each other, so how can that be of any help?

dikkertjedap · 27/04/2012 19:23

TBH I have always felt sympathetic to the McCanns, just because it is such an awful thing to happen. However, now seeing how panicky Mumsnet HQ is responding and clearly feeling intimidated by the McCann lawyers, my sympathy is tumbling rapidly today since reading this thread.

LaVolcan · 27/04/2012 19:28

I think you speak for a lot of us dikkertjedap.

catsareevil · 27/04/2012 19:35

It is all very strange isnt it. I hope that one day we find out what actually happened, and that it gives some understanding to the unusual way this has been handled.

Not all of the police files were released, some has been kept back, and I presume that the information held back is that considered most relevant by the police?

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 27/04/2012 19:42

PumpkingSweetie, - probably safest to silence yourself before you are forcibly silenced Sad. I had a temp ban slapped on me by MNHQ last year for a comment they interpreted as critical to the McCanns - for some reason all comment about the disappearance of Madeleine McCanns is forensically scrutinised and any ambiguity, however unintentional, is interpreted as hostile to the McCanns and you are summarily banished [puzzle].

boringnickname · 27/04/2012 19:49

I cannot understand a lot of the attitudes here, of course i am interested and concerned as to what happened to this little girl, no parent could ever be uninterested and harbour a hope against hope that this little girl is still alive.

Saying that i do not think we, as the public, has any right to the information held by the police/authorities regarding this case unless disclosure of that information is likely to result in further evidence. It is none of our business actually (yes i know, i started the thread) the ins and outs of the investigation. There will be reasons that certain aspects haven't been released but i really don't know how it would help anyone by not having this in the public domain.

There is no conspiracy - the public don't need to know

I think the McCanns themselves are behind the push for more and more publicity for their case and fair play to them for that, they are intelligent and articulate and have used the media to try to find their little girl, it is just a shame the the public love a soap opera and couldnt just see it for what it is - desperate parents doing what they can to try and find their missing girl.

So to a degree, when there was no more "news" or "gossip" in the "oh how terrible those poor people" folks turned on them because it was more news worthy.

Its a bit like eastenders - there is never a happy ending in there, because the public really don't like them! That is why i don't watch the program! It makes me depressed.

I started this thread asking the question - do you think the fact that this is being ressurected by the police indicate that evidence may have come to light that madeleine will still be alive or evidence to lead to her abductors or whatever - rather than inviting a whole dissection into what happened years ago, i am sure what has been said on this thread, has been said ad nauseum over the past years since she disappeared.

Floggingmolly · 27/04/2012 19:52

Jesus MrsGuy You were banned? Something really, really fishy going on here Hmm

catsareevil · 27/04/2012 19:52

boringnickname - I dont know if you are referring to my post re the information in the police files. What I meant was not that the public has an automatic right to see internal police paperwork (which I am surprised was released), but that it is very hard to form a reliable conclusion from a set of papers where the ones probably most relevent to the question have been held back.

boringnickname · 27/04/2012 19:54

no sorry cats, not your post, and maybe not just even attitudes on this thread, but just attitudes in general actually to news, the public always feel entitled to news at any cost - but maybe that is why we have this bloody enquiry wasting my tax money going on at the moment. I should add that i am probably just as bad as everyone else, i started this thread after all

OP posts:
boringnickname · 27/04/2012 19:55

Also cats, im not sure it is for "us" the public or anyone other than the police or relevant bodies and of course the victims of this crime to draw conclusions anyway, if that makes sense at all.

OP posts:
catsareevil · 27/04/2012 19:59

I think its human nature to try to make sense of any information presented, I dont think that is really avoidable.
