To be so annoyed my employers have put me in this position?

I'm a housekeeper for a very nice family. Sort of a cross between an au pair and a cleaner and I really like my job. A few months ago however, my employer told me something and it really doesn't sit well with me. What they're doing isn't illegal (as far as I know) but is very frowned upon and could get them in a lot of trouble if they got found out. I'm so upset, I'm not usually a snitch or a gossip and I take privacy in my work very seriously, but what they're doing has directly affected my family in the past and it makes me so annoyed that they'll get away with it.
They've gone to great efforts to cover their tracks although they certainly arent discreet about it around me and I feel really quite used that I'm supposed to just sit here and watch it happen even though it goes against my morals.

Please someone tell me what to do! Even if it's just to strap on a pair!

Need more info to determine whether you are or aren't BU...

Itsjustafleshwound · 24/04/2012 10:24

If you are offended then I think you perhaps need to look for a new position and get away from the situation they have put youu in.

The sh* t will hit the fan and you may be implicated - even by association ...

GrahamTribe · 24/04/2012 10:25

Frowned upon by whom? Who else's business is this whatever-they-are-doing? And how does it affect you?

Jux · 24/04/2012 10:26

Have they put their holiday home down as their main address to get their kids into a better school?

TBH, I'd snitch.

SooticaTheWitchesCat · 24/04/2012 10:26

If you are uncomfortable about what they are doing maybe you need to look for another job, especially if things are affecting your family. It's not worth the hassle.

37jonsialex · 24/04/2012 10:30

Frowned upon by people in greneral... especially by parents... I can't really say it without giving myself away, I'm not sure if she's a mumsnetter.

I thought the same as Jux, are they saying they live elsewhere to get into a better school?

SuePurblyingoodVOICE · 24/04/2012 10:48

Oh I was hoping for proper Mafia stuff. And then you'd Know Too Much OP and be rubbed out Sad. Not that I was hoping for that bit.

Is it the school thing? Not much you can do about that, is there?

Kladdkaka · 24/04/2012 10:50

They don't use fish knives do they? Disgraceful, you need to leave.

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 24/04/2012 10:51

I'm also guessing this is about school admissions! But more info is needed to know if YABU.

I think you need to decide if you can continue working for them. If you like your job in every other way, I would just leave it. It's not your place as a housekeeper to get involved in these things.

If you feel strongly enough that you should report it, then you need to start looking for another job.

37jonsialex · 24/04/2012 10:52

I wish it was the mafia stuff too- Much more exciting!
I was clearly not as cryptic as I thought. Yes it is.

It was clear that this was school catchment area related from the off.

I've already made my views clear about it on MN - good luck to anyone who does whatever they can to improve their child's education in a shitty state system. If you're happy to walk out on or lose your job because some people are willing to go to great lengths to improve their children's education and you don't agree with how they do it that's down to you OP. If you want me to tell you what to do, then mind your own business. (Well, you did ask!).

Jux · 24/04/2012 17:04

So they're dishonest. If you want to risk working for people who will take the letter of the law and not the spirit of it, or be dishonest about one thing - and therefore that much more likely to be dishonest about another, well that's your shout.

mayorquimby · 24/04/2012 17:06

if you don't like it report them

DaisySteiner · 24/04/2012 17:11

Oh god, is she formula feeding the baby? Shock

lisaro · 24/04/2012 17:24

Oh FGS grow up! It's not illegal, get over yourself. Either go or stay, but you have no need to blab!
