To think we are becoming one of "those" couples...

.... so someone has yet again let their dog poo on the drive of our house (between the house and the car) and failed to pick it up.

DH is total clean fanatic and hates the idea of dd stepping in dog poo or dog poo where she may drop and then pick something up. I think although unpleasant and fucking lazy its a fact of life.

Anyway he has gone to hose it down and has decided he is going to hand make a notice and remind people to not let their dogs do it. I think it makes us one of "those" couples in the neighbourhood, a nit picky, sign writing, local councillor complaining NIMBY couple.

AIBU to ask him to think about not putting the sign up, accepting the fact people know but don't care about the dog poo picking up rules, that the sign will make no difference, may make people do it deliberately and above all NOT invest in the cctv he swears will be the next step so that he can have a polite word threaten to beat them with their dog lead with the repeat offending owner?

YABU I'm with your DP on this one and if shotguns were legal I'd buy him one! Grin

Cremeeggsandkitkatsoldiers · 23/04/2012 16:48

its not NIMBYish because it's not like a dog shitting on your drive and it being left there serves any greater good!

go get em OP's DH !

WorraLiberty · 23/04/2012 16:48

There are a few notices like that put up by residents here...they either get torn down or ignored.

The CCTV is a good idea imo.

lunar1 · 23/04/2012 16:49

im with your dp, but then im thinking of cctv to catch whoever is stealing my milk, so i guess i am one of those people too.

Sparklingbrook · 23/04/2012 16:49

Show him this one Grin

NoOnesGoingToEatYourEyes · 23/04/2012 16:52

I'd get the CCTV to be honest and report it to the council, perhaps via fixmystreet.com if your DH wants an outlet to vent.

We have a dog and clean up after her. I wouldn't dream of letting her use someone's drive and if by chance she did manage to wander onto one and poo I would clean it up.

Dog poo shouldn't be a fact of life on anyone's driveway, especially if it's not even from their dog. The dog might not know or care but the owner should.

I know you shouldn't have to do so but do you have gates you can close just to try and make the point if you really can't face becoming "one of those couples"? Grin

5Foot5 · 23/04/2012 16:53

I am with your DP too. If it is happening regularly at about the same time I would be tempted to keep watch from somewhere discreetly and then either:

  • go out, give them a mouthful, take a photo and threaten to report them to the police
  • follow them discreetly to find out where they live and then take the turd and leave it on their doorstep

Depending how brave I felt and how big they were

gafhyb · 23/04/2012 16:56

Isn't there something you can put where the poo was, to put the dog off but not hurt it? I'd do that first, although likely the dog will just poo elsewhere.

I have (politely) confronted people in the past, when walking on the street but IMO those who let their dog do this are pretty shitty individuals, and I don't want wankers knowing where I live. I'd be tempted by the "put the poo on their doorstep" option ...

gafhyb · 23/04/2012 16:59

.. some websites recommend chilli powder or vinegar, regularly sprinkled where the dog poos as it is irritating to their noses. Don't know if this is harmful though

Softlysoftly · 23/04/2012 16:59

Oh bollocks, fine i'm ordering the zazzle poster, DH will be thrilled.

5foot5 DH is feeling VERY brave am concerned.

noonesgoingtoeatyoureyes We have no gates its an open drive sadly, and it is fairly regular. I hate that they do it it was just the handmade sign that made me feel a bit erk but clearly sparklingbrook has solved that issue for me ta muchly!

Some hoodie let their staffie shit on my drive. I think they were shocked that I ran around the corner after them and shouted "oi you've let your dog shit on my drive". I was even more shocked when they came back and cleaned it up and didn't post it through the letter box

lunamoon · 23/04/2012 17:00

I'm another one who agrees with your dp.
Letting your dog do this is not on.

Sparklingbrook · 23/04/2012 17:03

Someone will say the rotisserie dog sign upset their child mind softly. Grin Be careful.

Tee2072 · 23/04/2012 17:13

You're assuming the dog is with an owner and not just wandering the neighbourhood.

suburbandream · 23/04/2012 17:16

I am a new puppy owner and always pick up poop, but it amazes me how much poo is left lying about - it's revolting, my pup tries to eat it and DS2 always seems to manage to step in it!! Angry. I would contact the council if I were you, get them to put signs up and also if you contact them they should clean it up too.

WhirlyByrd · 23/04/2012 17:19

Our life has been changed by a sonic scarer. A shit free zone since then.

DontHaveAtv · 23/04/2012 17:23

I'm with your dp. I hate it when people don't clean up their dags crap.

DontHaveAtv · 23/04/2012 17:24

dogs

thebody · 23/04/2012 17:43

No notices, it will ensure u have dog shit everywhere, people are like that.CCTV is wonderful, we caught our burglars( well police did) and the fat one got 7 years, great stuff.

Angelico · 23/04/2012 17:51

Go with notices first (love that one Sparkling :o) and then the CCTV if it doesn't work. I love dogs but it really does piss me off when this happens - we still have a squished bit in our drive from when we went away for a week and came back to find a few bits around. Think it was fucking holiday makers renting the house opposite for a week.

Angelico · 23/04/2012 17:51

:o @ thebody

dexter73 · 23/04/2012 19:56

If someone doesn't care enough and lets their dog shit on your drive without clearing it up then I doubt a sign is going to make any difference tbh.
