I don?t think it?s ever good to be at a disadvantage in any situation. Fortunately I have, er, managed to recover the old thread in its entirety. So, no more Chinese whispers, since I now have facts at my disposal. I haven?t had time to go through it all and probably won?t bother, because frankly much of it is pretty boring and just covering the same ground, but just wanted to make a few factual points.
Rindercella, I?m happy to admit that my choice of words in my post about ?the vast majority? were not entirely accurate, so I apologise if it was misleading. It should have been that the vast majority of posters on the old thread thought that the owner was unreasonable to withhold part of the deposit for damage caused, rather than specifically advocating that a bad review was posted on Tripadvisor. In fact, using the word ?unreasonable? is quite mild, since the comments ranged from ?Take the bitch to the small claims court? to ?You should name and shame on here and on all the review sites?. Verbatim. Very quickly, I counted 12 posts, from different posters, that directly slated the owner. Now, the number of actual posts is irrelevant, that?s just twisting figures. The number of different posters is the only important thing. That then gives a true percentage. Were you a politician in a previous life?
Another thing that caught my eye on the old thread was a post by Boots. Last night I commented that renting out rooms was not quite the same thing as renting out a whole house, and Boots specifically said ?not really?, followed by plenty of verbal, meaning in context that renting out rooms isn?t any different at all. A verbatim quote from Boots on the old thread says:
?It's not quite the same but I let out fully furnished rooms?
So, is it the same, or isn?t it? Must have been a Bill Clinton moment, I guess.
