to wear silver and black at a wedding?

Hi, I have a friend's wedding in August and have been invited to the wedding and the reception. i have seen a gorgeous dress on the Coast's website. it is Silver with a black bow belt around the waist. The silver isn't shiny - it's like a matt silver or a silver grey. i did look at other more conventional colours but thought that this dress would take me from day to night quite easily. But what do others think about those colours? Should i stick to a more conventional colour?

No, the dress is mostly silver and no one cares if you wer black to a wedding these days :)

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 22/04/2012 14:35

Can you link to it? It its mainly silver, I think it would be ok as long as its not too dark. If its mostly black or very dark, then no.

tinkertitonk · 22/04/2012 14:37

Yes please pic or link. The bow belt sounds dodgy.

mcl4 · 22/04/2012 14:59

I am hopeless at adding links but the dress can be found at www.coast-stores.com/JEMMA-DUCHESS-SATIN-DRESS/Dresses/coast/fcp-product/2143415941

I tried that in red a few years ago. It's super-flattering.

no thats a really nice dress. no offence with that at all

kittyandthefontanelles · 22/04/2012 15:02

It's gorgeous. You'll outshine the bride! Do it. (And get me one while you're at it-save on the postage)

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 22/04/2012 15:07

this one?

I think that's lovely, and it is light enough to wear to a wedding.

eurochick · 22/04/2012 15:10

That's perfect for a wedding.

Spuddybean · 22/04/2012 15:11

I think an accent of black is fine - and for the record me and every friend i have discussed it with still think all black to wedding is rude.

The dress is lovely tho. Defo wear it :)

Ambi · 22/04/2012 15:11

It's nice, go for it.

Ambi · 22/04/2012 15:14

I've worn grey and black to weddings before but I was 6+7 months preg so it was jersey but looked nice and no-one dared say anything to the heffalump.

mcl4 · 22/04/2012 15:14

Thanks everyone - am really glad you like it! I usually wear peach or light blues to a wedding - but wanted a dress that I could wear for the night reception as well. :))

I wore grey to a couple of weddings recently but was pregnant so was a case of fitting into whatever I could find! Wore a silvery grey stole too & I think it was fine...well no-one told me otherwise!

My SIL wore a black dress with bright pink scarf to my wedding & that was fine with me.

TidyDancer · 22/04/2012 15:25

Ooh that is beautiful. Definitely okay for a wedding.

welliebobs · 22/04/2012 15:57

Dress is lovely

Gef · 22/04/2012 16:03

Dress is fine.

Was at a spring wedding last year, and about a quater of the women were in full black or predominantly black, and of the rest many had black accessories.

Glittertwins · 22/04/2012 17:24

I really like :)

eurochick · 22/04/2012 17:26

I think the black thing has gone by the by now, tbh. There has been plenty of black at the weddings I have gone to over the past few years.

tinkertitonk · 22/04/2012 18:26

Fabulous; my concern about the belt has gone. You will look extremely sexy and expensive.

cocoachannel · 22/04/2012 18:49

My bridesmaids wore black with cream flowers embroidered onto the dresses (from Coast), it allowed us to have mixed bright coloured roses. They all looked gorgeous.

DublinMammy · 22/04/2012 18:52

Gorgeous dress, go for it......

Debsbear · 22/04/2012 18:56

I wore purple and black to a wedding on Saturday, go for it!

startail · 22/04/2012 19:03

I'm stuck with a black shrug over a bronze dress with red and purple flowers.
It looks wrong with a wool purple shrug and I'd match DD1.
I'm not buying a purple jacket to wear once and red will clash with DD2Sad

startail · 22/04/2012 19:03

Oh and it's a lovely dress
