Terrible parents at the rec center! What would do you do?

A couple weeks ago I was on spring break from school and to help out my aunt I took my little cousin to the pool at their rec center. What really irritated me was one mother who brought older, like 8 or 9 year old, boys into the women?s room. To top it off, there is a huge sign that says something like: Please keep your children with you at all times and be respectful of other patrons by utilizing the family locker room.

Well I guess she really didn?t get the message as she was too busy on her blackberry while the 2 boys were messing around. My cousin is only 4 so she didn?t really pay attention to them but myself and some others were awkwardly trying to change. I waited until one boy chased the other to another part of the room before stripping down but wasn?t so lucky when they came back. I shot them a furious look as I was standing there half naked and had no choice but to turn my back and get my bikini bottoms on and tied in record time, all while being stared at!

What?s worse is that I had to spend the next couple hours keeping these brats from running off with my cousin?s toys. At one point I yelled at one of the boys but he just threatened to tell his clueless mother and the other boy whispered to his brother ?we saw her hiney? and then ran off laughing!! I was super embarrassed!! I guess my point is?should I have told my aunt to complain to the management? Like how do you handle a situation like that? Should I have confronted the mother? Has anyone else been in the situation and what did you do?

Poor you, probably say something to a member of staff and let them deal with it I think.

I'd have complained to staff at the centre tbh.

I hate communal changing rooms anyway.

YANBU, you should have complained to the Mother

Just out of interest, was this in America?

Could you have used the family locker room instead? Some of the pools I goto are universal for both men, woman, boys, girls and famillies. To be truly embarrased you would need to be in a changing room with my 5 year old with ASD. Imagine little red riding hood meets the wolf. "Mummy what a big wobbly belly you have...Mummy what fat boobies you have" in the loudest voice you can imagine.
But yes - you maybe could have said something to a member of staff.

Sorry but this spend the next couple hours keeping these BRATS from running off with my cousins toys makes me think less of your post and problem. A grown woman calling 8-9 year old boys brats because the adult they are with is irresponsible? Mature, very mature.
