someone being discussed in the OP has ever appeared to defend themselves?

I just always wonder with all the mil/bil/sil etc posts that someone must see a post a think "hang on a minute, that's me!"

OP posts:
CharlotteBronteSaurus · 21/04/2012 21:14

don't know if it was an AIBU, but i definitely remember a thread where the OP's much-maligned DP popped up to defend himself. it would have been quite funny if I hadn't had the sense that they were both being deadly serious.

PurpleRomanesco · 21/04/2012 21:16

BonkeyMollocks, Do'ya ever wish you hadn't look at something?

Luffly pics... :o

roundtable · 21/04/2012 21:17

There was the one recently with the really weird apology to the subject of the op's thread.

amistillsexy · 21/04/2012 21:17

Does anyone remember the 'Astrakhan coat' thread?

As far as I recall, that had an entretemps like this.

I'll go and have a little search and come back.

snice · 21/04/2012 21:17

what about the one with Jon Ronson's missus

BonkeyMollocks · 21/04/2012 21:18

Thanks Blush Wink

Grin Clue is in the name

thisisyesterday · 21/04/2012 21:19

omg yes... whatever did happen with that bloody coat? i remember i stopped following it for a while and when i came back the whole story had gone completely insane

KenDoddsDadsDog · 21/04/2012 21:22

I remember the coat thing!!
Of course Pedlars popped up too on a thread slagging them off.

SarahBumBarer · 21/04/2012 21:22

There was a thread just this past week where the OP posted about her friend being off with her then came back to say said friend had read the thread and recognised herself and given her a right bollocking. Friend did not herself make an appearance so far as I saw.

PurpleRomanesco · 21/04/2012 21:23

You are very welcome!

What happened with this coat?

scuzy · 21/04/2012 21:25

not here but was on another forum

snice · 21/04/2012 21:25

Ronsongate was 2007 - his wife was very cross

Proudnscary · 21/04/2012 21:30

There has been sock puppetry-esque shenanigans ie people coming on claiming to be OW/MIL etc, but not sure how many have been legit.

Groovee · 21/04/2012 21:31

Not on here but a woman's partner appeared on her thread giving his side of the argument on another forum.

Hassled · 21/04/2012 21:33

I'd forgotten the Ronson thing - that was hilarious.
And I'd forgotten cross maligned slightly sinister DH popping up.

So that's 4/100,000,056 threads I've read.

Proudnscary · 21/04/2012 21:34

Oooh at Ronsongate! Seems dated now as he has been usurped by Louis Theroux and Danny Wallace et all

PurpleRomanesco · 21/04/2012 21:38

Who the flippity fuck is Jon Ronson?

Hassled · 21/04/2012 21:40

Purple - journalist. Some telly stuff. It turns out some MNers don't rate him very highly.

YesIamYourSisterInLaw · 21/04/2012 21:44

Wow no pages back in 2007 eh?
Thanks for the link, it had me chuckling

OP posts:
BassaiDai · 21/04/2012 21:48

I read a post on here once about a particular aspect of a very sensitive subject.
It was basically slating people who had been through the same shit as me. But it seemed even closer than that. A friend of mine had also questioned me on this aspect of the situation numerous times.

A search of other posts by the same poster made it clear that the poster was indeed the person I foolishly thought was my friend. Needless to say we are no longer friends. Backstabbing two faced bitch Angry

PurpleRomanesco · 21/04/2012 22:09

That's horrible Bassai.

Good riddance, Eh?

scuzy · 21/04/2012 22:13

Bassai thats horrible

i often am shocked at the naivety of people online and in RL that think they cant be traced/figured out online through chat forums

Plaguegroups · 21/04/2012 22:17

I reckon there are probably more people who recognise themselves than you'd think but most of them don't want their lives picked over in public any more than they already have been.

I've seen other threads where it happened a couple of times, I'm pretty certain both were deleted though.

OP complaining about her childminder (or possibly childminder complaining about client?), can't remember the exact details now.

OP complaining about online perfume seller, he came on and got all threatening, all threads were deleted, he put some rubbish on fb about how MN owed him an apology, he was going to sue, etc. No sign of any court case yet though.

yesIamwhoyouthinkiam · 21/04/2012 22:19

I posted on here about something and someone (never found out who) recognised me and passed on what I had written to the person I had posted about in an email with links to my posts. It's caused all sorts of shit and even 7 months on I am still hearing how the information has been passed on to other family members and friends. I thought I had sorted it out with the person involved but it still rumbles on. I had to get stuff deleted and now namechange every time I want to talk about anything I think might be used against me.

I would love to know why the person passed the info on and what good they thought it would do. it also caused a whole heap of shit with my dh. I do wince when I see people posting such obviously personal stuff, though in my case the person clearly saw my profile and knew stuff about me to identify me, or might even be one of my friends - I will never know.

WorraLiberty · 21/04/2012 22:20

I used to post on a forum where one Mother was obsessed with posting about her DD.

She told everyone when the poor girl had worms, when she developed breasts and needed a bra, when she had head lice, when she started her periods...just about every personal detail about her.

And the worst thing was, she had her DD's photos on her profile Angry
