To have a bit of a problem with Tom Jones being a 'mentor' on TV when he couldn't give his own son the time of day?

I have always disliked Tom Jones for this reason and feel it's a bit inappropriate for him to be cast as a mentor when he wouldn't even accept his own child? Yes I realise this is a TV programme and perhaps I am being UR not seperating the two issues...

It's a TV programme.

HecateTrivia · 21/04/2012 19:38

what happened with his son?

Northey · 21/04/2012 19:39

Can't see the connection, myself. Lots of people are able to mentor or inspire in their professional life whilst being less than amazing in their personal life.

knittynoodle · 21/04/2012 19:39

YABU to have overlooked Danny from the Script. He is a total dick.

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 21/04/2012 19:39

Son from one-night stand.

PesosBandageBox · 21/04/2012 19:39

He's mentoring their singing and D-list celebrity skills, not parenting them.

Sunnywithachanceofshowers · 21/04/2012 19:40

YABU to get so emotionally involved. Unless you know his son in real life, of course.

kay1980 · 21/04/2012 19:42

Get a grip it's a tv programme

SauvignonBlanche · 21/04/2012 19:42

I don't know, I haven't met him, or his son.

BellaVita · 21/04/2012 19:42

YABU.

haagendaz · 21/04/2012 19:44

Yes, I realise I probably was being UR just really hate to see him in that role with those young people having the opportunity to look up to him after the way he treated his own child

OP posts:
Northey · 21/04/2012 19:45

They are looking up to him for his singing and sleb skills, not his parenting/relationship skills.

bringbacksideburns · 21/04/2012 19:46

It's about music not him being a parent?

Northey · 21/04/2012 19:46

A bit like those who admire Wagner can separate out his music from the fact he was a big fat Nazi.

Bambino81 · 21/04/2012 19:48

Well the papers said it so it MUST be true

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 21/04/2012 19:53

Think the son's mother has behaved rather badly, actually. She didn't know Tom Jones is married? Really? And then to tell her child that daddy was "busy" for 18 years, could she not have come up with a better story than that? Confused

DilysPrice · 21/04/2012 19:56

Ah well, Wagner is very dead indeed, so if I listen to his music he's not going to benefit from it in any way. If he were still around to collect the royalties I'd boycott him regardless of his genius.

Pagwatch · 21/04/2012 20:10

I just realised that you meant Wagner. Not Wagner.

I reached for X-factor. I am the lowest of the low-brow

Pag- that's funny!

Pagwatch · 21/04/2012 20:15

Shameful

joanofarchitrave · 21/04/2012 20:16

DAMN i clicked on a daily mail link, there goes my boycott again, can they tell I closed it down straight away? PLEASE label your links if you remember

pag Grin that suggests a whole new scenario akin to the urban myth of the bride and groom walking down the aisle to 'Robin Hood, Robin Hood, riding through the glen'

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 21/04/2012 20:20

My apologies for the unmarked Mail link. Blush

joanofarchitrave · 21/04/2012 20:27

oh don't worry i probably ought to assume all links are DM links unless specifically labelled otherwise!

Northey · 21/04/2012 21:01

Maybe he was a nazi too, pag.

ecclesvet · 21/04/2012 21:23

Wagner died in 1883, so it would have been quite a trick for him to be a Nazi. He did have rather unpleasant opinions, of course.
