Reading the replies on my other thread I have realised that there are some issues regarding DHs job offer. I apologise to the MN Forum police for a) putting this post in the wrong place but hey shit happens
b) making 2 posts about Dartford, I could have added this on to the other post but I didn't want it to get lost, as I would like some replies.
In January my DH had a job only an hours commute from our home, at the end of January he was seriously attacked, he was repeatedly kicked in the head by 3 attackers who left him unconcious, bleeding on the floor. Because of this attack he took one week off work to enable him to recover, although his physical injuries had begun to subside by this time, the psychological injuries where only just beginning to manifest, he managed a total of 2 weeks at work and then had to acknowledge he at that moment in time he couldn't cope with work. 2 weeks after beginning sick leave he was sacked,(he's a contractor so the company was within their rights to let him go)
Now we are the point where he is capable of working again and wants to return to work, BUT after reading the replies on my other thread I am beginning to seriously doubt whether DH shold be taking on the massive challenge of a job in Dartford. We live in the North West and we drive a N reg land rover that does 65mph before it rattles, it will take over 6 hours to get to work on a Monday Morning meaning he will either have to leave home on a Sunday afternoon or the early hours of Monday to ensure that he gets to site for 9am at the latest. On Friday he is hoping he can leave site at 2pm for the long trip back home. As a family we will have Saturday with him, where he will be physically and mentally exhausted. Also he will be paid a day rate for the job, from this pay he will have to take out all his expenses, as the company WILL NOT pay them, so it will be a hell of a lot of work for very little money.
AIBU to tell him to go and stick this job where the sun doesn't shine and we will work something out. I have just become self employed and if I worked nearly everyday at full slog then I can make just about enough to cover our expenses, giving him the time he needs to find a job closer to home? but my physical health could suffer (arthritis in hands and feet and job is very physical) but it is something I am willing to do. Codeine is my best friend
I must also point out that when I told him the situation around Dartford, he began to get very distressed, showing me that although he has made massive improvements he still has some way to go before he is fully recovered from his injuries.
