There is not enough time in life to hoover or mop daily

(disclaimer - unless you have allergies blah blah blah)

There's far too much competitive cleanliness on MN. Just admit it, no-one hoovers every day. No-one with a life, anyway.

Unless you have really hairy, heavily shedding dogs. We'd be knee deep in hair if I didn't hoover every day.

Couldn't give a fig about cleanliness and hygiene but resent becoming an inch taller upon walking through the house on account of dog hair sticking to socks.

Imachocolateportal · 13/04/2012 20:50

YANBU - however our hover comes out a couple of times a day, but that is because of an indoor rabbit and messy DCs and DH

The floors do not get mopped everyday. About twice a week they get a good clean, and then just if something is spilt. If we could get away with not hovering as much we would.

janie2 · 13/04/2012 20:50

Do Mumsnetters clean everyday Shock

I'm new to this............I need

Wine
SparkyMcSparrow · 13/04/2012 20:51

YANBU!!!

southeastastra · 13/04/2012 20:51

but if you have time doing it daily is kind of nice

akaemmafrost · 13/04/2012 20:51

I hoover every day, sometimes twice, small flat and it looks grubby and horrible if I don't, its depressing.

Mopping the kitchen floor? About once a fortnight, if its lucky Blush.

belindarose · 13/04/2012 20:52

I'm getting new carpet this week, so might Hoover daily for a week or so. Then will never find time again. And I do have a dog (downstairs only though). Hate lugging the Hoover upstairs.

Kayano · 13/04/2012 20:52

I Hoover once a week

I clean my skirting boards once every 5 years

LoopyLoeufdePaques · 13/04/2012 20:52

That's the point. No-one with a life has the time.

Life is too short to waste it on cleaning. Hoover daily? er no thanks

MissPenteuth · 13/04/2012 20:53

Yes there is competitive cleanliness but there is also the opposing force, competitive slatternliness. I'm batting for the latter team btw Grin

LoopyLoeufdePaques · 13/04/2012 20:53

Ah Kayano, sometimes I think we are separated identical twins (you're the evil one of course [winks] )

SootySweepandSue · 13/04/2012 20:53

I'm secretly pleased my DD is scared of the hoover and we can only do it once a week. It does need it more often to be honest, but how can I see her little face crumble or risk waking her upGrin.

janie2 · 13/04/2012 20:54

feeling better now.......... phew!

discrete · 13/04/2012 20:56

Please keep this thread going, I intend to show it to dh (who will hoover every day come what may).

Life is too short to live with the sound of a hoover every day.

lolajane2009 · 13/04/2012 20:58

i never hoover... hubby does it once i nag him into it. i cant get poor henry up and down the stairs so it is better he does it.

LoopyLoeufdePaques · 13/04/2012 20:58

Ah yes, I use the fear of hoover excuse too.

A little quiz for you.

When friends drop round unexpectedly, do you

a) welcome them in without a moment's thought. Your house is spotless
b) hesitantly offer them a cuppa whilst apologising for the mess
c) welcome them in without a moment's thought. You don't give a shit
d) hide

?

Unless you're a real clean-fetishist, this idea of having to have a perfectly clean house is just a way of wasting women's time. A bit of mess doesn't matter and there are far more important things to do than hoover and mop.

Imachocolateportal · 13/04/2012 21:00

c) if they don't like my house they can bugger off and then I don't have to share my biscuits

mrspnut · 13/04/2012 21:01

We have mostly wooden floors and so would welcome anyone in at any time.
Any dirty marks in the floor can be explained away by being out in the garden most of the time.

ErikNorseman · 13/04/2012 21:01

I would be more than happy for someone else to Hoover my house every day, but not me. Twice a week here. It takes 2-3 days to get skank so that's how long it gets left.

LoveBox · 13/04/2012 21:02

Yesyesyes. I hoover only when we have important visitors rarely. I dont own a mop (just hoover kitchen floor too!) and I haven't cleaned my skirting boards since I moved here 2.5 years ago!

I have a wonderful, full, insanely busy happy life. I like to think my slattern-ness is down to my busy life, not my inherent lazyness!

Mibby · 13/04/2012 21:02

I hoover daily. I have a small house, three cats and a toddler who will eat anything on the floor. Takes about ten min at the most

LoopyLoeufdePaques · 13/04/2012 21:03

No no no no no! 10 minutes my arse.
