There is not enough time in life to hoover or mop daily

(disclaimer - unless you have allergies blah blah blah)

There's far too much competitive cleanliness on MN. Just admit it, no-one hoovers every day. No-one with a life, anyway.

In our house the only thing done daily is kitchen surfaces, sink, toilet & tidying.

Vaccuuming, bathroom, dusting, mopping, dusting & cupboard fronts are done once a week.

Looks fine to me.

porcamiseria · 13/04/2012 22:10

what southeast said

now its once/twice a week , and cleaner does it mainly

when on mat leave alot more! a clean floor is nice!

oldsilver · 13/04/2012 22:10

I mostly hoover my living room every day (only takes a few minutes) depends on how crunchy the floor has got - DP helpfully swipes crumbs off his tablemat and the table onto the floor Hmm Suggestions he could just take the tablemat out to the kitchen bin and shake them in there are met with a stunned silence and a face like this----> Shock

Tee2072 · 13/04/2012 22:13

Full Hoover once a fortnight carpet sweeper used daily on obvious dirt. That's husband's thing. I almost never use it.

LoopyLoeufdePaques · 13/04/2012 22:26

I wonder how often your average male hoovers?

QueenofPlaids · 13/04/2012 22:31

I am a bit Hoover-phobic. DP knows this so tends to do the Hoovering, but not every day.

In return I often do more of the ironing as long as he doesn't take the piss

Beveridge · 13/04/2012 22:33

DH hoovers in our house. We got a battery powered carpet sweeper as a housewarming present (just left a left a house with entirely wooden floors for one that is all carpet. Still in shock) and DD runs about with it in between weekly hoovers.

My work here is done Grin

deliciousdevilwoman · 13/04/2012 22:35

I hoover daily. Twice downstairs some days.

I still manage when not out and about with DD, to while away lots of time on non domestic drudgery. As it happens, I find hoovering strangely therapeutic :)

Thetokengirl · 13/04/2012 22:36

I also dislike the feel of crumbles on soles of feet/socks.... So I wear slippers. Grin
Can't remember the last time I vacuumed, but we do have a cleaner who does it once a week.

IamMummyhearmeROAR · 13/04/2012 23:13

I Hoover every day due to shedding hound. I also Hoover the hound. He finds it relaxing.

MadameChinLegs · 13/04/2012 23:16

When aty last job ( events) i used to do tje vaccing up at tje end while others did the rest. nothing more theraputic than hoovering a carpet in a room built for 700, especially if you can follow the pattern on the carpet.

MrsLetchlady · 13/04/2012 23:39

Nah, I can't be arsed to clean daily and mostly fall into the 'apologising for the mess camp'. Sometimes, I wish I could be bothered to care. But in fact, I just don't. That said, my priorities are..,

  1. My children
  2. My husband
  3. My job
  1. Cleaning the house.

Its way down on my list of priorities and I'd rather spend my time mumsnetting with my children. Well, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. Grin.

bobbledunk · 13/04/2012 23:57

I hoover and mop every day, it takes minutes if you move fast enough and by doing it daily there is no build up of dirt or dust so you can just fly over it. It takes forever to clean if you let your floors get dirty.

I like a nice clean, tidy home and with a crawling baby, I like to be able to put her down anywhere in the house and not have to worry about her finding something to choke on.

A clean, ordered home takes a lot less time than what is wasted trying to find things in a dirty, messy, cluttered one.

Each to their own, there is no right or wrong way, whatever makes you happy and comfortable with your surroundingsSmile

These threads worry me. I don't have kids yet but we're planning them. I don't want to hoover more than once a week as if we even do that and I don't want to believe it will ever be necessary to do a load or more of washing every day. Someone on the Slatterns team please tell me it's not true and it doesn't have to be that way??

LoopyLoeufdePaques · 14/04/2012 00:06

I don't hoover. I haven't used my machine machine since we got a new one about 6 months ago. I have a DH who does these things - hoovering once a week and washing maybe every other day or does it just magically arrive on my bed? You don't have to turn into an anal housewife, don't worry.

Quodilibet; you will be surprised how many clothing changes babies go through, between leaking shitty nappies, puking and food mess you can need a few changes a day plus the mess that gets on your own clothes, blankets and cushion covers etc.. Grin

TapirBackRider · 14/04/2012 05:04

I hoover the downstairs during the week, and mop as necessary (v large white, mud attracting, farting labrador), and iron too. It takes an hour at the very most for all of this.

At the weekend, dh hoovers the entire house, dusts, mops, irons, changes beds & does our garden, and his elderly uncle's garden.

I work 6 days a week, he works 5. He firmly believes that this is a fair division of work Grin
