There is not enough time in life to hoover or mop daily

(disclaimer - unless you have allergies blah blah blah)

There's far too much competitive cleanliness on MN. Just admit it, no-one hoovers every day. No-one with a life, anyway.

The (wood) floor in our kitchen gets mopped a couple of times a year Blush

I find the kids socks soak up most of the dirt and was very nicely in the machine Grin

I used to wash it every day but then when I got seriously ill a couple of years ago and no one else was bothered I realised the need to clean it was only in my head.

Life is good!

Isaidhangonamin · 13/04/2012 21:10

Wash not was....

EdlessAllenPoe · 13/04/2012 21:11

as a former competitive slattern, the house is rather alot nicer for being hoovered/ floor done every other day, and tidied every day.

still not every day, unless we have a house viewing.

i'm not sure how long i'd keep this up, unless i had to.

cantspel · 13/04/2012 21:14

I hoover downstairs very day and upstairs once or twice a week depending on how much mess the boys have made.
I like a clean tidy house.

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 13/04/2012 21:14

If I didn't hoover every day, we would be knee deep in dog and cat hair by the end of the week.

I have a steam mop, so it takes as long to mop as it does to sweep.

I don't change the bed sheets every day or anything weird like that though!

Isaidhangonamin · 13/04/2012 21:15

P.s. my mum taught me these sayings....

  • Housework is a good friend. It will always wait for you.
  • A tidy house is the sign of a wasted life.

She quoted them to me so I could learn from her lifelong learnings Smile

Chubfuddler · 13/04/2012 21:16

I Hoover every day. It takes about ten minutes. Not a big deal.

LoopyLoeufdePaques · 13/04/2012 21:20

Bitter your name is uncomfortably ironic.

Loopy sorry to spoil your quiz but can I choose option c)i - welcome them in without a moment's thought whilst apologising for the mess Grin

kittyandthefontanelles · 13/04/2012 21:22

My husband does all the hoovering. I'm so spoilt!

RandomMess · 13/04/2012 21:22

Hmm when I had crawlers I used to sweep and microfibre damp mop the downstairs every lunchtime whilst they napped although I do have a very small house so it didn't take long!

5madthings · 13/04/2012 21:22

i do hoover the sitting room everyday Blush but ti takes all of ten mins, longer ever few days when i move toy boxes, take all cushions of sofa and hoover the soft furnishing, i do have allergies tho tbh thats not why i do it, its having 5 kids one of whom is a 16mth old that will eat every speck of dirt she finds (rolls eyes)

the dining rm and kitchen are laminate so i sweep them everyday, i only hoover the stairs and upstairs (carpet) a couple of times a week tho!

but when it comes to friends coming round and its messy, which it often is if i dont have at least 20mins notice so i can whizz round, then i dont care, any friend that would be bothered isnt a friend worth having! if its REALLY messy i may make a bit of an apology about the mess, but my house is lived in, i do keep it reasonably clean and tidy but i have a life and 5 children so its NEVER immaculate, its amazing what you can get done in a 20 min blitz tho, particularly if you get older kids to help ie 5 and upwards :)

BellaVita · 13/04/2012 21:28

I clean my skirting boards every week. I hate filthy dusty skirting boards.

I hoover downstairs every day. I Hoover upstairs once a week. Kitchen floor is mopped sometimes twice a week but usually once a week.

My sheets including the Ds's are done once a week.

I dislike dirt and mess.

JimbosJetSet · 13/04/2012 21:32

Our house gets vacuumed once a fortnight, same with cleaning the kitchen, bathroom and any other cleaning. Everything is pretty fluff/grime covered by day 13 but neither me or DH care quite enough to do anything about it on a more regular basis. And I figure it must be good for DD's immune system... I am def a competitive slattern, aren't I?! Grin

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 13/04/2012 21:33

I like hoovering.
I hoover everything, even the kids.

I hoover at least once a day

so there

SkinnyVanillaLatte · 13/04/2012 21:33

I hoovered regularly with crawly babies.

Now I have shaggy rugs that non food waste disappears into, and a dog to deal with food waste.

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 13/04/2012 21:35

Not really, Loopy. My house is a pit, I just have clean floors Grin

AberdeenAgnes · 13/04/2012 21:36

My house is a hole. But I Hoover twice a day - once while the dc eat breakfast and once while they eat teA.

I have a White dog whose hair really shows on everything so I feel I need to.

I am not remotely competitive about cleanliness

MadameChinLegs · 13/04/2012 21:40

My hoover is the dustiest item in my house.

Blush
jodidi · 13/04/2012 21:47

I don't hoover very often. If someone arrives unexpectedly it magically appears in the middle of the floor so I can say "sorry, you've caught me just as I was about to hoover". They then can't say anything about the mess because it's their fault I'm not dealing with it Grin

NoVeggiesBeforeEggies · 13/04/2012 21:56

I hoover more than once a day.
And still my floors look like they need doing.

No shame here though, I AM a boring bugger and my vacuum cleaner is my favourite thing in the house

NoVeggiesBeforeEggies · 13/04/2012 21:57
Shock
OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 13/04/2012 21:57

madam I cannot abide a dusty hoover!
I clean mine often

MessyTerrier · 13/04/2012 21:58

I hoover twice a day. Three kids, one dog...it's a necessity. I loathe the sensation of crumbs stuck to my socks.

MadameChinLegs · 13/04/2012 22:00

I can't justify pulling it out from under all the crap in the cupboard to clean it though. When I next remember to use it (don't know when that will be as it is buried under the christmas tree) I will wipe it over for you Grin
