TartyMcFarty · 13/04/2012 17:52

YANBU. I don't think I want to know about the horror stories.

catgirl1976 · 13/04/2012 17:53

Horror stories?

Maybe I don't want to know........

Do I?

upahill · 13/04/2012 17:53

I know

YABU to buy them especially from places from the Vue where they can cost the best part of a weeks salary for a couple of 100grams

Loshad · 13/04/2012 17:56

yes, yabu. They have been handled by a thousand unwashed hands that were previously scratching their owner's arse or similar.

JarethTheGoblinKing · 13/04/2012 17:56

There are horror stories?

We stopped buying it after DS had a horrible stomach bug after buying it. Happened twice before we realised. Urgh.

oldmum42 · 13/04/2012 17:57

I prefer my sweeties, bread roll, fruit and veg etc to come in hermetically sealed bags!! Got kind of PUT OFF one day when I was picking rolls out of a bakery tray and a woman next to me sneezed all over them in a huge spray of saliva droplets...... which I couldn't see, but felt landing on my hand in an OMG moment.

RedBlanket · 13/04/2012 17:57

You buy pick and mix, you must be loaded!
The only horror I get is when I get to the till and see how much it costs.

OneOfMyTurnsComingOn · 13/04/2012 17:59

YABU to buy pick and mix, full stop.

You could buy lots of bags of various sweets for way less and make your own. Several times over.

musicposy · 13/04/2012 17:59

I want to know the horror stories!

People lick them and put them back? The ones at the bottom stay there for 6 years? (have secretly wondered this) The scoops are never washed, ever? Staff collect them from the dust under the pic n mix counter every night and put them back for sale? You need a small mortgage for what used to be known as a quarter but has now been magically reduced to 100g?

SpaghettiTwirlerAndProud · 13/04/2012 18:00

I get the pre-priced cups and squish in as much as i can, got a £4 one from wilko the other day and I weighed it to see how much I actually had, and the price was £5.78 Blush

TheMonster · 13/04/2012 18:03

Urgh. Many, many hands, belonging to many, many kids( and adults) who don't wash their hands have touched them.

SecretNutellaFix · 13/04/2012 18:05

Do you have a mortgage just for sweeties?Shock
Pick and Mix prices are astronomical!

Besides, after seeing a little darling take a chocolate mini egg out lick it and put it back, no thank you.

musicposy · 13/04/2012 18:05

We can beat that! I got £3.68 worth of pick and mix into a £1.99 cup at wilkinsons Blush DD1 only managed £3.41 Grin

It has taken us quite a lot of practice....

NettoSuperstar · 13/04/2012 18:06

I buy them for DD.
I also love the Morrison's salad bar, I figure if I didn't see it, it didn't happen, and I happily eat my sneezed on food.

musicposy · 13/04/2012 18:07

Grin at "If I didn't see it, it didn't happen".

SpaghettiTwirlerAndProud · 13/04/2012 18:07

I got £1.79 extra in mine Posy :o

The trick is to squish it down with the scoop after everything you put in Wink

La la, I'm not listening!!! I love pick 'n' mix - I'd rather have a bag of that than a box of Belgian chocolates - and I don't want to hear any horror stories to put me off.

SpaghettiTwirlerAndProud · 13/04/2012 18:09

Exactly Netto that's my view too :o

ENormaSnob · 13/04/2012 18:10

I would probably still eat it even if I saw someone lick it and put it back.

Kladdkaka · 13/04/2012 18:12

Come to Sweden, it's pick-n-mix heaven. We have whole supermarket sized shops devoted solely to pick-n-mix. All the sweets that used to be around when you were kids, but have since disappeared ... they're here ín Sweden.

fatmummy35 · 13/04/2012 18:17

When I used to work in Woolworths we would sweep up what was on the floor and put them back - managers instructions Blush

VivaLeBeaver · 13/04/2012 18:19

We no longer have pick and mix in our village shop. Years ago DD tripped and went flying into the plastic boxes and the whole thing came crashing down and broke beyone repair. Sad

8 years on and they've never replaced it. Its all her fault.

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 13/04/2012 18:21

My mother used to make us wash our Pick and Mix in Milton before we were allowed to eat it, she was the same with salad. I was 17 before I realised these foodstuffs did not need to be a dissolved mess nor did they taste of bleach.

RedBlanket · 13/04/2012 18:22

Pre-priced cups at Wilko's. Must check that out, I pride myself on getting my money's worth out of a salad bar.
