to be fuming with a visit from the window cleaner!?

So 4 weeks ago I was on my way out and seen the window cleaners up the street. I asked them to do my house and he said fine, that'll be a fiver and I need it now as it's a one off. I said fine, paid said fiver and got the windows done.

Came home yesterday to a note through the door saying 'we've washed your windows and will call for money'. I was a bit miffed as we hadn't asked to be put on their round, every 4 weeks is too often IMO and coupled with the fact it had been tipping it down with rain yesterday and we just didn't want our windows cleaned.

Guy came round yesterday, DH answered and explained we didn't want to go on the round, hadn't asked and weren't paying. He muttered alright then and left.

Sitting here alone and the door goes this evening. Another bloody window cleaner from the same company. He said 'I'm here for the money' and I explained we weren't paying, we hadn't asked for them to be done and he knew fine well it was a one off clean we'd asked for. He stood and bloody argued with me then threatened me with a visit from the boss. Oooooh scary!

I'm fuming at being confronted like that on my doorstep, he should take the hint and fuck the fuck off. Is this how window cleaners operate? AIBU to not pay for something we didn't ask for. Surely they can't go round cleaning windows and demanding payment.

Phoned DH, I was actually a bit shaken by the whole thing after the bravado wore off, not helped by my hormonal 39 weeks up the duff state. He's going to phone them tomorrow and speak to 'the boss' and tell him to do one and not come to our door again.

And yes, this is incredibly lame but I'm home alone and the telly is shite.

I don't think YABU. If they come back again then perhaps a call to the police or Trading Standards

Flisspaps · 11/04/2012 19:11

Oh - and the was aimed at me not knowing which, if either, would be appropriate, not you!

birthdaygurl · 11/04/2012 19:12

I think its your hormones. Confused

WorraLiberty · 11/04/2012 19:12

The cheeky fuckers Shock

If they come back again after your DH has spoken to them, I'd threaten to call the police.

You can't simply go round cleaning people's windows and then demanding money when they didn't want them done.

Sounds like he was trying to intimidate you in your 39 week pregnant state without your dh around. Nice bloke Hmm. I wouldn't want him washing my windows either, yanbu.

TheDetective · 11/04/2012 19:17

I think they are being damn cheeky, so no, YANBU. I wouldn't pay either, on the basis that if I did, they would keep doing it.

Also, £5 every 4 weeks would be ideal for me! Mine haven't been cleaned in 2 years since the window cleaner sacked me for not being in when they came round to collect! Like that was my fault. Every time they did catch me in, I'd pay what I owed, so don't see what else they wanted me to do! Not like they offered any other type of payment! Oh, and it was £7.50 every 2 weeks! Ridiculous!

BTW, next time you want them doing, get a handyman, and get them to do the UPVC too, if it is white. It will look ace after!

takingiteasy · 11/04/2012 19:21

£7.50 every 2 weeks?! Bloody hell!

We did get them done by another firm every 4 weeks when we first moved here about 5 years ago but it just wasn't nessecary so we cancelled.

Then our next door neighbour was having intimate relationships with a window cleaner who we got friendly with and he would do them for us for free. He's moved on now hence the need for a clean. I'll just send DH out with the ladders from now on, no tilt and turn here. They just don't get that dirty.

He has a special hose. Shock

BellaCB · 11/04/2012 19:26

YANBU. We've recently moved into our house and some window cleaners keep knocking and asking for payment. We've told them again and again that we don't want the windows cleaned, but they just keep knocking. They knocked yesterday and I told them firmly not to come back again, but I suspect as DD, sitting on my hip, had pulled my v-neck jumper down waaaay too low without me realising, I might be getting another visit... Blush

takingiteasy · 11/04/2012 19:32

A special hose? Interesting!

Ours is a standard bucket, shammy and ladder kind of outfit.

Bella sounds like you've given them something to come back for ha!

See I knew there was a reason it cost more, no buckets here, he has a whole contaception in his van.

takingiteasy · 11/04/2012 19:43
