To think it's weird to call a dog after the children's cousin?

SIL's brother bought a dog and called it Ella; SIL's 6 yr old daughter is called Ella. When SIL protested they said it would be too hard to change the name now. Weird people.

I was going to ask if the child was called Rex/Glen/Rover ... Grin

YANBU - a bit odd definitely.

h0tcrossmum · 08/04/2012 13:53

Yep it's weird.. I would not be happy is my DB, DS, SIL or BIL (I have lots Grin) named any of there pets after my child!

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 08/04/2012 15:18

It is a bit odd, but Ella is a fairly common name and quite popular at the moment. Our dog has a name that I know people use for their children, although we don't personally know any of those children. I woudo guess little girl Ella might like it if she likes dogs.

My DS is named after DHs childhood dog. I think that's odder.

He got me to agree when I was still out of my tree from giving birth Grin

Too weird, that didn't stop my OH insisting on naming our new puppy the same as his then assistant's baby. Some people just don't get the concept of boundaries.

youdontknowmebut · 08/04/2012 16:28

I think its odd but then I hate 'human' names for animals.

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 08/04/2012 18:33

Some humans give their children names that sound more like dog names though. Except I don't think Ella is one of those.

My friend called her DC after her DMs pet (still living, so some potential for confusion Grin.

XH's OW called her dog after my and XH's DS. Hmm

doctorcake · 08/04/2012 21:11

outraged For at least a couple of years I walked home from school with my children the same way as a woman with a small terrier and her children. I assumed that the dog was called Rex and it was very badly behaved hence the need to shout its name alot, just recently though I found out its the name of her son Grin

SarahStrattonsEasterName · 08/04/2012 21:11

I had a pet toad as a child, I named it after my Grandmother. Horrible woman.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 08/04/2012 21:19

My neice called her dog after DS1.

It didnt even register with me when she told me. I just said 'oh nice' and didnt make the connection.

Must have drove her insane

It only clicked years later that she did it as some sort of revenge. Long story, short - she had asked me to care for her baby as SS were removing him into care. She then became very angry with me for looking after him Confused

She managed to lose the dog a few weeks later too [unsuprised emotiocon with bunny ears]
