"If you can't afford children you shouldn't have them" [and] "child benefit and tax credits should be abolished" with the mantra that if she choses to be childless she should not be forced to pay for the 'breeding' choices of others.

A Facebook friend of mine. I didn't retaliate.

Hmm

wicketer when you are working really hard to find a job, which 1000s are it is frustrating and hurtful when people say things along the lines of 'you'd get a job if you just tried'. People generally aren't getting things handed to them on a plate. It's a fallicy encouraged by the Government on the basis of devide and conquer and to distract people from realising many of the true issues are not being tackled.

IamTheSandInYourVagina · 05/04/2012 23:22

I know you don't understand outraged, I've been trying to explain to you why this is a bad idea for hours, but it's not getting through...I think I'm probably not being clear enough when I tell you why there are so many unemployed people, and when I explain that the people that will suffer are the little babies born into these families who are deprived of hope, I'm not sure how much clearer I can be...

Maybe if you had to live it? Maybe that would help?

ANYWAY.

wicketter - you haven't "offended" me at all! Sickened would be the correct word. HTH.

This thread has degenerated into an undignified slanging match.

LISTEN to yourselves.

It's an emotive subject but really...

9 children is not the norm.

tethersend · 05/04/2012 23:25

The Surrey Iron Railway was the first railway opened for public use in the world opened in 1801, used to carry coal, sand and stone from Wandsworth to Croydon. FACT.

An undignified slanging match on a MN benefit thread?

Surely not, thats never happened before much

IamTheSandInYourVagina · 05/04/2012 23:26

Well, quite Crystal.

wicketter · 05/04/2012 23:27

just enjoy your babies

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 05/04/2012 23:28

But Sand, wouldn't the solution be for people who are long term unemployed to just not have more than two children? The same as working families do when they know their wages won't support more children?

Hecubasdaughter · 05/04/2012 23:28

Good point dione no amount of hard work is going to get me a job as a consultant surgeon.

Well it could if I went back to Uni for 5 years, 2 years as a FY Dr, 10years perhaps on training program. Doesn't really solve the problem really as it would gain me lots of debt and be 5 years before I was earning anything.

Hecubasdaughter · 05/04/2012 23:30

Your caseload rhino? so you are only seeing the bad side.

usualsuspect · 05/04/2012 23:30

I got WTC for my 3rd DS , I'm not sure if I was allowed him or not.

Dawndonna · 05/04/2012 23:30

I have three children at home. Ds2 wants to be a Doctor.
Dd1 Wants to be a Lit Lecturer.
Dd2 Wants to be a Vet.
Poor little children, without hope, on benefits.

Call me suspicious but like I said 15 posts in...I really wonder about these so called 'Facebook' threads Wink

FrankWippery · 05/04/2012 23:32

usual, I think that you will have to sell him.

DioneTheDiabolist · 05/04/2012 23:32

Rhino, your job is working with troubled families, so it is not really surprising that you hold the views you do. However there are thousands of families on benefits who do not require your services.

The families that you see are not the norm, that is why you see them.

Hecubasdaughter · 05/04/2012 23:34

I have been trying to think if I personally know anyone with 6 or more children. I'm struggling I've come up with a family of 4 who are incidently are a HRT family. Other than that I have had to go back to my great gran and Grandmother in law. I can be 100% sure my great gran received no benefits for her dc.

I resent all this people on benefits shouldn't have families. What about people with disabilities who are unable to work. Just because they're unable to work, doesn't mean they shouldn't be allowed to have children.
I've said it before, Marie Stopes is alive and kicking.

Hecubasdaughter · 05/04/2012 23:39

Most benefit claimants do not, if only they got half that, I wish. Actually I'd rather get a second or new job but since people don't want to believe that.
