"If you can't afford children you shouldn't have them" [and] "child benefit and tax credits should be abolished" with the mantra that if she choses to be childless she should not be forced to pay for the 'breeding' choices of others.

A Facebook friend of mine. I didn't retaliate.

Hmm

i know the real world more than you realise. dont patronise me. i would do anything to make sure my kids were happy, fed and clothed and the rest.

DioneTheDiabolist · 05/04/2012 22:52

£40k.Shock. Where do you get these figures?

IamTheSandInYourVagina · 05/04/2012 22:53

actually there are jobs out there-if you are willing to do most things. the problem is that you are better off on benefits. that is wrong

Clean up in aisle three.

The stats are:

2.7 unemployed.

463,000 vacancies.

I have namechanged from ShirelyKnottage.

DioneTheDiabolist · 05/04/2012 22:54

You haven't got a clue if you think most benefit claimants have an income even close to half the 40k figure that is quoted.Hmm

wicketter · 05/04/2012 22:55

i dont know where you guys live but i know here people are saying thay cant get ajob when really they cant job they want. sorry to generalise but i can only speak from experience

IamTheSandInYourVagina · 05/04/2012 22:56

Dione - please don't get too upset. It's clear that we are dealing with claimants who recive unicorns who vomit £20 notes and shit plasma TV's and smartphones.

Those unicorn bastards.

No, the fact that there will be over 2 million unemployed will not sway me. I don't know what you seem to think I'm saying here, honestly.

I'm not saying people shouldn't have children, I'm not saying that I think people who rely on benefits are scrounging or are in some way not genuine.

I honestly just dont see the sense in giving people who don't have jobs more money for every child they have. It's what contributes to making working seem like an unattractive prospect in comparison, and it doesn't do anyone any favours, especially the child who is brought into a long term workless family. People on both sides of this debate agree that people shouldn't be so much better off on benefits than in work, and unless things change, there will never be a strong incentive to find work even if we create four million jobs.

Hecubasdaughter · 05/04/2012 22:58

If you read my other post about blaming people for their situation as a psychological protection mechanism rhino

Yes witacker there are jobs out there. However there are more applicants than positions so the majority of applicants are rejected. The unemployment figures are high in addition there are a significant number of people job seeking who are not included in these figures. It adds up to a lot of people going for each job.

IamTheSandInYourVagina · 05/04/2012 22:59

You can generalise all you like wicketter (I'm slightly confused why your writing style has changed so drastically, but I'm presuming that it's red wine? The same as me?! haha!) but your experiences do not trump the actual facts...

which are.

2.7 million unemployed and only 463,000 vacancies.

ick - that's tough hey?

wicketter · 05/04/2012 22:59

btw 40,000 works out at 24,000 take home. average for benefit family FACT

wicketter · 05/04/2012 23:01

Also, why any vacancies when people are desperate to work

tethersend · 05/04/2012 23:01

Swallows and martins are a group of passerine birds in the family Hirundinidae which are characterised by their adaptation to aerial feeding. FACT

usualsuspect · 05/04/2012 23:02

1,800 people applied for just 68 jobs when a new supermarket opened near me, see theres loads of jobs .

IamTheSandInYourVagina · 05/04/2012 23:03

I read your post Outraged, but all I could see was a denial of facts which made me feel a bit uncomfortable TBH.

Shall I start doing the statistics about how much it costs to raise a child per year versus how much people receive per child in benefits/tax credits/CB?

Really?

I mean, I can do that but it feels kind of pointless to me...

usualsuspect · 05/04/2012 23:04

There would still be 2 million unemployed people if all the vacancies were filled. Did you do maths at school at all?

Hecubasdaughter · 05/04/2012 23:04

Sorry wicketer I keep getting your name wrong. I admit for the first week or 2 I only looked at jobs in my field. It soon became clear they were few and far between in my geographical area. Now I am not fussy. I obviously discount jobs I'm incapbable of physically or legally eg hairdresser or gas safe engineer. I have applied for cleaning jobs, shop assistant, shelf stacker, admin assistant, receptionist, lab tech, research assistant etc. If you have tips on getting jobs they would be welcome.

IamTheSandInYourVagina · 05/04/2012 23:06

It's called natural turnover wicketter. Blimey this whole thread is turning into an embarrassment of knowledge for some of us is it not?

Think about every company in the Uk. Think about every job that becomes vacant. Think about every person searching for a job. Think about every person in work who transfers naturally to a new job.

Stop thinking that those on benefits are scroungers.

Look at the figures.

Think.

DioneTheDiabolist · 05/04/2012 23:11

24k take home huh? That a helluva lot more than any benefit claimant I know gets. Can you get one of them to PM me Wicketter, I don't even get half that.

Hecubasdaughter · 05/04/2012 23:13

I'd love to meet these benefit claimants who get the equivalent of a 40k salary. I'm sure I've never met one.

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 05/04/2012 23:16

Sounds pointless to me too, I'm not really sure why you're suggesting it. Confused

I'm not denying facts. I realise that unemployment is high at the moment. I don't really see what that has to do with limiting support to two children when more are conceived while both parents are on out of work benefits.

wicketter · 05/04/2012 23:17

i am so sorry if i have offended anyone. i am only talking about my area. i just get so annoyed that we are working so hard for things that people get put on their plate. not any of yours fault.just get frustated
