To be angry at this woman?

Hi,
Was swimming today with the little one and in my leisre centre you have to leave yor buggues upstairs. When I came back a woman just sat her baby into my pushchair, changed the harnesses etc. and tried out my buggy. I was so angry and told her off. I wasn't shouting or anything. The woman on the reception told me not be angry about it and there was nothing wrong with trying somebody's pushchair. Sorry but IMO there is. AIBU?

Get a wheel lock so that the wheels can't turn.

DonInKillerHeels · 03/04/2012 16:25

Chillax? FGS!!!

Yep, trying to steal it. And receptionist blase to the point of complicity. I'dmake a formal complaint in writing.

How odd, and very annoying.

I would definitely make a complaint.

AgentZigzag · 03/04/2012 16:28

Hahahahaha at chillax Grin

Did you reply with 'Whatev's' Grin

ThisIsANickname · 03/04/2012 16:28

nickelhasababy I've now got this image of you (or whatever my imagination has decided you look like - fedora and all) plotting the great buggy caper, mumbling to yourself things like "Yes. yes. Take your time. Make it look like it's yours. Good."

Ruggybug · 03/04/2012 16:31

OP what did this woman say after you'd told her off?And afterwards did you see her go to her own pushchair? How do you know for sure that she thought it was hers and made a silly mistake?
I'm sure you could tell from her reaction whether she was going to steal it which I can't really believe as theres a chance you could bump into eachother again or maybe I can't believe some peoples 'front' as I'd never dare touch someone elses stuff.

Birnamwood · 03/04/2012 16:32

I'll put a tenner on her trying to steal it!

At my local swimming baths they have buggy locks in the changing rooms. Pre dc i was a bit Shock at the locks (as in ' why would anyone bother to steal them?) but now I've got dc I can see why, not just the expense of them, but I would be lost without mine

Grin

that's me! Grin

HypatiaTheProcrastinator · 03/04/2012 16:39

Noooo!! Shock I wouldn't be impressed at all!! I could vaguely understand if it was something unusual that you'd imported and she was interested to see what it was like, but Cameleons are in most baby shops. Confused Actually, I wouldn't let her off in that case either. If she really wanted to see what it was like, she could have waited and asked you politely if you would let her try her child in it. The receptionist sounds awful, definitely complain!

BornToShopForcedToWork · 03/04/2012 16:45

Ruggybug

She told me to chillax and left shortly afterwards with her buggy.

My friend left her broken buggy outside her house once for her DH to take to the tip. It was gone within an hour, taken by someone.
She hopes they didnt put a baby in it as it was the seat unit that was broken so the baby would fall right through it.

SuePurblybilt · 03/04/2012 16:56

Complain to the LC manager about the receptionist.
I reckon she knew the woman fwiw

DinahMoHum · 03/04/2012 16:57

blatantly trying to steal it. Theyre expensive pushchairs with good resale value. Id make a complaint

Agincourt · 03/04/2012 16:59

I once left my pushchair outside at the old house whilst I got all the children into the house, I heard this scuffling outside and saw this woman with no teeth looking up and down the house and then she turned with the pushchair and started running down the pathShock I banged on the window and shouted 'what on earth are you doing?' and she scuttled back with it and said 'sorry i thought it belonged to someone else'
wtf!

I don't suppose it's relevant that she had no teeth

Scaredycat3000 · 03/04/2012 17:04

I think you should report this to the Manager. The part about the receptionist means they should be looking into this as a company. It could be innocent, it could be a well organised thieving team, involving an employee.

GabrielsBanjo · 03/04/2012 17:05

Receptionist could've just been feeling defensive because she wasn't doing her job properly. But I agree that it sounds like that woman could've been trying to nick it. I too would saunter round with it, trying to be all casual as though I'm just pootling about with MY buggy, doo-be-doo. Except I'm not a thief and would rather rinse my mouth out with soap than say chillax

DizzyKipper · 03/04/2012 17:10

Another one here for following this up. Very possibly it was all 'innocent' as they claim and this woman was, bizarrely, trying out your pushchair, although she had no right to do such a thing anyway. More likely it was attempted theft with the receptionist potentially involved. I'd have no qualms about pursuing this.

Proudnscary · 03/04/2012 17:18

I had my flip flops stolen at my local leisure centre and had to walk out bare footed.

When I reported them stolen to the manager she said 'I'm Russian, where I'm from if you don't nail it down it's gone'!

Yes woman was a nutter or a criminal but there's not a lot you can do about those people in life. I'd let it go and would not be frothing at the mouth like some on here!

BornToShopForcedToWork · 03/04/2012 17:19

What kind of flip flops?

OP posts:
AgentZigzag · 03/04/2012 17:24

You wouldn't be bothered about someone nicking something you'd shelled out few bob on (more than flip flops) Proud?

What's 'frothing' got to do with it?

That's being overly outraged at something most people take as a given isn't it?

JustHecate · 03/04/2012 17:26

"trying it out"

Yeah, right.

Pull the other one and hear it tinkle.

She'd have walked off with the bloody thing.

the receptionist had a nerve too. Mate of thief tryer outer?

Shriekable · 03/04/2012 17:29

Fucking disgrace. I reckon if you hadn't come back she would have taken it.

CremeEggThief · 03/04/2012 17:41

Complain to the Leisure Centre manager. The bloody cheek of some people!

Pandemoniaa · 03/04/2012 17:47

So who told you to "chillax" (am amazed that people really do say this)? The buggy stealer or the receptionist? For sure, it's hardly a professional way for a member of staff to speak. Also, whilst I rather doubt there's a professional pushchair stealing ring here, it does sound as if their arrangements are somewhat insecure. Who tries out a buggy other than in a shop? So I think you've just foiled a theft. I suggest you write/send an email to the Leisure Centre manager and the council that are responsible for it.
