Bought a coffee machine from Dualit in 2009. It made great coffee but had a filter that was impossible to clean and kept getting blocked by coffee granules. After several months, the filter blocked while steam was passing through and the machine exploded, shearing off a sharp piece of metal.
That machine was still in warranty so we got a replacement in November 2010. This time we have been extra careful about cleaning the internal & external filters, running water through before using, unblocking with a pin etc etc. However the same thing has happened again - piece of metal has sheared off with the pressure and machine is now unusable.
This time the machine is out of warranty by 4 months and Dualit are refusing to replace or refund. Instead they are going to charge us about 15 quid to return the machine and to have a look at it. If fixable they would then charge us for parts and labour.
There are several reviews on Amazon where users have the same problem and it seems to me that this machine is badly designed:

AIBU to think that Dualit should not be charging me to return faulty goods?
