to not want to give my baby chocolate yet? Or is it ok?

Just need to find out if I'm being mean really!

I know a family member (with DC) is getting my baby an easter egg.

Baby is 6 1/2 months old.

I don't really want to give my baby chocolate until fully better than at the moment! weaned.

Is this mean? Is it ok for baby to have a little bit?

I just know they'll be waving it around in baby's face and I don't know if I'm being unreasonable in saying no not yet and then taking it home to scoff myself! Grin

Just thank them and tell them your child is a baby and is therefore too young to eat it.

Of course YANBU, your baby has never tasted chocolate and has no idea how yummy it is. It will just be a bright shiny object as far as baby is concerned

However, when you do give chocolate for the first time, get the video camer ready. We failed to record the bliss that came over our daughter's face the first time she tried Gu chocolate mousse.

totally you should eat it yourself

try to time visit so that baby has ''just eaten'' and smile gratefully, fulsome thanks, and scarf yourself in peace back home

You can let her have some, it won't do any harm, but it's your choice not anyone elses.

I didnt give my dd chocolate till she was 1, and even then only a little here and there. I was called mean, but it was my decision and I stuck by it.
Yanbu to refuse chocolate for your baby.

Smile sweetly and say thanks, and then eat it yourself when they've gone! Perks of being a mum!

Seriously, though, I would not give a 6 month old chocolate. I held off until DS1 was nearly 2, cracked quite a lot sooner with DS2 but he was still at least 9 months.

I didn't let DD have chocolate until she was 14 months old. She didn't appear that impressed tbh - one chocolate button was the ration, it got eaten, and there was no screaming for another.
That was 3 weeks ago and she's had two more since.

I like the idea of a GU choc mousse though :)

Gawd, my DS1 didnt have ANY chocolate till he was 2.
My DS2 of course got his paws on it MUCH earlier than that.
But not at 6 months.
Why would anyone buy a baby an easter egg - genuinely baffled -thats just wierd. There are loads of easter nicnacs out there!

My DS is 12 months and I've refused all requests from family and friends to buy him an Easter egg. My mother was quite insistent so I've said yes because I'll eat it all

I'll give him some now but if he was 6 months and still not fully weaned I wouldn't give him any. not that I'm pfb about DS

DD1 was 9 months old on her first Easter. I gave her a little taste of MY Easter egg, which was the first chocolate she had had.

I don't think it would do any harm, per se, but they aren't missing out on anything if they don't know about it.

YANBU. Under ones shouldn't have sugar anyway IMHO, and there are plenty of amazing tastes for your baby to try before developing an appetite for sweets and chocolate.

Ds turns 1 this coming week and DH gave me a tiny bit last week. I was a bit Hmm but if he'd done it at six months I'd have been cross.

It's your decision anyway, you are not mean!

YANBU - I am very laid back re good I think and I wouldnt give a 6 month old baby an easter egg! They dont want it, they dont crave it, what is the actual point!

Agree with others, it's your decision. Neither of my DSs had chocolate until they were 2 and they very rarely even get it now. I just don't see the point in giving them a taste for these things when they're little and don't know anything about it! Enjoying scoffing it yourself. :)

Not precious at all! Yanbu :) so very young and still building first tastes up only just used to solids without throwing sweets in the mix. Plenty of time for all that :)

Yanbu a little hit won't harm him but it's absolutely your choice. I second the video i have a series of amazing photos from the first time ds tasted a chocolate flake, he was about 12 months

YANBU however by making eating chocolate into a special thing that needs videoing and rapturing about how great it tastes etc. etc. then YABU, it's just food, it doesn't taste any nicer than lots of other foods unles you start tieing these emotions to it.

God, this sort of thing is so easy!!!

You say: "Thanks! look baby, chocolate". Give baby a tiny piece, save rest for later.

When guests leave, you eat the choc yourself.

I mean, is this sort of thing really that hard???!

I have bought 10 mo DS a buttons egg. I plan to let him have a couple of buttons and then eat the rest myself

He hasn't had chocolate before this though.

Agree that waiting till older is best idea. Ds had chocolate at around 15 or 16 months I think. First taste of ice cream at about 14 months ( may baby ) wow that was some grin Grin

Enjoy the egg in the smugness of doing what's right for your baby Wink

Next year all bets are off ......
