To think this was highly dangerous and report to the police?

Our school is on a busy main road (B road) at the bottom of a steep hill.

This morning I was standing talking to a couple of other Mums when we see a bike fly down the hill passed all the cars. Riding the bike is a man and in one arm he is carrying a toddler. He went straight through the crossing even though the lights were red.

All of us were really shocked. the other ladies I was talking to recognised him and said 'oh thats X.'

AIBU to call the police (non-emergency) and report him?

YANBU, he's endangering his and the toddlers life and should not be allowed a bike!

He certainly needs a reminder of the highway code and his parental responsibilities perhaps a friendly chat from a police officer would do that?

But to be honest it should be his peers talking to him and people are so afraid of how people might respond that responsibility falls to the police for things we should as a society be able to do ourselves.

Someone capable of taking such a risk probably will not listen though. I suppose I am saying this is a difficult issue and calling the police might not be the best response but is probably the only one you will be comfortable with.

The only one being unreasonable was the bloody idiot with the child on the bike Angry if you can then yes id report him like a shot!

As this is AIBU can I say yes? Not so much to the man with kid on bike but I think this thread is a bit high horsey. It isn't really the end of the world. When I lived in the UK the Police wouldn't even attend a serious assault if they were busy, are they really likely to go and knock on someone's door and lecture them on the highway code? Bloodyhell.

sorry i read that as the man had 1 arm but carrying a child Blush , Its dangerous and stupid but it happens i Guess you could have a word with the police about it but unless they catch him doing it there is nothing they can do

bringbacksideburns · 30/03/2012 10:20

It would have been the end of the world for the child if the idiot had got run over. And maybe for some poor driver.

I'm sick of irresponsible dickheads on bikes with no helmets, no high visibilty gear, with kids hanging off the front and back of their bikes.

If you can ID them i'd report it. Maybe nothing will happen, maybe he'll get a talking to and think twice before doing it agin.

Never travel to SE Asia. Whole families carefully balance on one scooter to get around Here

But having said that, I would be a bit Hmm to see more than one person on a push bike in the UK.
