to wonder what happened to 'proper' mealtimes?

Just lately all the kids parties we go to seem to involve serving food (mostly sandwich type buffets but at one McDonalds) at times that are between mealtimes (between 2 and 3pm)?

I just don't get this, I try really hard to get into a good routine and give my children a good attitude regarding what they eat / snack on and when and I don't like them being re-fed between meals?

One party started at 12.30 so I didn't know what to do, I have DD a snack before but the food came out at 2 so the kids that hadn't had lunch like my DD were probably starving. Then come teatime she didn't want her proper dinner.

We have been invited to another party like this next month and I'm sorely tempted to refuse the invite but will feel bad as I know my DD will want to go :(

I have never asked anyone, "How do you stay so slim without dieting?". Not even once, nevermind constantly. Should I have done? Am I a meanie?

knowitallstrikesagain · 29/03/2012 15:37

No one has ever asked me how I stay so slim without dieting.

Sad

MamaChoo, ask me, ask me!

tantrumsandballoons · 29/03/2012 15:49

Mamachoo, knowitall, how do you stay slim without dieting?

Is it because you never go anywhere where there might be nice food in case you miss the 5pm deadline for tea?

Or is it because the weight just melts off of you?

Jins · 29/03/2012 16:38

Lioness lunch time is 0800 - 2200 Mondays to Fridays and 0800-2400 at weekends in case they fancy chips after the pub.

crunchbag · 29/03/2012 17:03

The dc and I just had a bowl of ice cream, just because I we fancied it, they are doomed [shocked]. And DS will have an early tea because he has footie practice tonight and he will most likely have a second tea when he is back.

Let's hope they didn't do this outside of proper mealtimes! Angry

I sometimes eat my packed lunch on the train to work at 7.30 am. I constantly badgered by people wanting to know about my diet. It never stops.

CremeEggThief · 29/03/2012 18:39

Eh? What is wrong with a young DC eating lunch between 2 and 3 p.m.? Lunch could have been any time between midday and 3 when DS was little and it still is here at weekends and during holidays.

knowitallstrikesagain · 29/03/2012 18:41

tantrums The weight just falls off!

strictlycomedancingdiva · 29/03/2012 18:56

OP, is it you who hasn't replied to my DD2's birthday invitation this weekend because it's 2.30 til 4.30? Confused

MamaChoo · 29/03/2012 19:04

I stay so slim without dieting because other people's lax parenting techniques make me pull a cat's bottom mouth which it is hard to get food through.

undercoverPrincess · 29/03/2012 19:18

You know it's not half past seven (aka wine time) quite yet, don't you? Grin

LadyBeagleEyes · 29/03/2012 20:21

Hi OP, you came back Grin.
I would have just slunk off if I'd been you.
You're brave, we've been a bunch of Mean Girls today.

though that doesn't change my mind about your OP.

undercoverPrincess · 29/03/2012 20:26

Wine rule in this house is after the small people are sleeping which is a good reason to get dinner and bedtime over and done with?

OP posts:
LadyBeagleEyes · 29/03/2012 21:13

I don't have small people anymore, but do recall opening the wine before dinner, after dinner, during dinner, just whenever.
You've too many roolz Op.

I finished the wine an hour ago

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 29/03/2012 21:13

MamaChoo Grin

OP - really, no wine until the kids are in bed? What about weekends? I do think you might be a leetle more uptight than you think you are Grin

DartsAgain · 29/03/2012 21:13

Have to say wine rule in our house is when I've decided I want one. Grin Not that I do very often. I get the joy of ferrying DCs around regularly (as does DP, we share) and have no wish to lose my licence!

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 29/03/2012 21:19

Darts that is one of the good things about preschoolers, they tend not to need picking up from anywhere after 5pm Grin

cory · 29/03/2012 21:50

Don't get the bit about party food being wasted; we used to live off doritos and cheezy whotsits for days afterwards. These days, dcs just grab a couple of tenners and meet their friends in town for a burger which is consumed on the premises with no leftovers. Now that is what I call a bloody waste Hmm
