Just watching the programme now and although the superskinny girl is very very thin ... AIBU to be more shocked by the supersized girl?

The thin girl isnt that much smaller than most fashion models. Find it very sad that I find her figure more 'normal' than the bigger lady and just wondered if any others think that way?

Well as you imply, that's more society than anything else. They're both very unhealthy (not watching but can imagine, it's always the same)

Although I suppose to be clinical the superskinny girl is usually 3 stone off being normal, whereas the supersized one has far more than that to lose.

I just don't see why that programme isn't more widely disapproved of. It's not a good idea on so many levels...

emsyj · 27/03/2012 20:59

I think the thin girl this week was a lot more shockingly thin than some of them have been - sometimes they just look to me very slim, but not unhealthy.

The supersize girl this week was very lovely looking I thought - I was a bit Sad that she had put a streak in the front of her beautiful natural red hair in the end bit tho!

ihatethecold · 27/03/2012 21:25

How can people afford all that food?
Seriously. We spend 100 per week. I cant imagine having to buy all that extra stuff.
She must spend a fortune!
Food is so expensive. Especially junk food!

Janoschi · 27/03/2012 21:26

I find the show odd in that the experts seem to think it's beneficial for the two poor buggers to swap one seriously misguided way of eating for another.

What use is it to give the supersize one a cup of tea and half a raw lentil for lunch? And why cram wodges of battered beige lumps into the skinny one?

Why can't they both start eating something sensible?

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 27/03/2012 21:29

I think the super fat are just as bad as the super skinny, neither are "normal". It used to annoy me when people would point the finger at (say) Victoria Beckham for being too thin and then suggest someone like Dawyn French in her fat days was somehow a role modeld despite being morbidly obese.

I suppose they swap diets to show that they are both as bad as each other, it must be as unhealthy to be 2st underweight as it is to be 2st overweight. Although I know that the fat person in ssVss is 6,7,8st overweight.

Tranquilidade · 27/03/2012 21:33

It's nothing more than a freak show.

You also probably are less shocked than the thinner one as most people on tv are thin to start with. The average woman is a size 16 yet how many of those do you see on tv? Do you seriously think fashion models are normal? Hmm

WibblyBibble · 27/03/2012 21:34

Yeah, the 'super skinny' ones basically look like most actresses/models. Which more or less demonstrates how skewed our perception of normal is, because the lovely doctor points out, they are just as unhealthy yet the fatter ones are the ones who get all the abuse while the thin ones are just considered normal and attractive. I guess there is more money in making unhealthily thin normal, because it's harder for most people to achieve? Dunno. It is very sad, anyway.

Tiredandgrumpy2 · 27/03/2012 21:34

I don't watch it

CrystalQueen · 27/03/2012 21:35

I'm sure they used to swap diets for a week, rather than two days. Presumably they are under medical supervision. Having to watch someone else struggle with their weird diets must make them realise how far from normal their eating habits are.
In previous series they seemed to spend more time addressing why people's diets had got so f*ed up, but now there's too much time spent on watching the doctor (who looks a bit superskinny to me) looking appalled in America.

frownieface · 27/03/2012 21:35

I dunno about anyone else but watching ssVss always makes me eat more healthily, Dr Christian Jessen (shakes fist) you have a lot to answer for Grin

WibblyBibble · 27/03/2012 21:35

The saddest one was where there was a really fat guy, he had used to go to a cycling club with his partner but then couldn't because he got too fat and was in a kind of spiral of comfort eating. Really feel like some of the people are so obviously depressed and need help with that to get better eating habits.

sensuallettuce · 27/03/2012 21:36

I am never eating processed meat again Hmm.

moggiek · 27/03/2012 21:49

Its always Christian's shirt collars that fascinate me Blush!

carabos · 27/03/2012 21:56

So-called "super skinny" girl tonight was just short of 8 stone, which isn't super skinny in my book. She looked unhealthy because she had really poor skin and hair, but not unhealthily thin. Super size girl however was colossal and looked awful IMHO.

Mrbojangles1 · 27/03/2012 22:23

To be honest those skinny people made me feel sick

Of you naturally 8 stone after eating 3 square meals a day then fine but these people are having baby food and sweets for dinner that's not healthy and they would not be able to mention that weight if they were eating propley their for unhealthy weight

Also they looked so I'll poor skin ratty hair, and I very much doubut any of those women were having periods

To be honest studies show that people who are very underweight have a simlar life expectancy and those grossly overweight

Both very horrible some of those skinny ones they eat so little I wo der who they have enough enegery to eat out of bed

Being obsessed with food is just as bad as hating it

sensuallettuce · 27/03/2012 22:25

Christian always looks a bit pervy to me and I so wish he would embrace his hair loss Hmm

msrisotto · 27/03/2012 22:30

Carabos, that girl was so underweight, she was infertile and you think that's normal?

msrisotto · 27/03/2012 22:33

Sorry, didn't mean to only address that to carabos bit to others inc the op who thought the skinny girl looked normal.

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/03/2012 23:45

the ones who are superskinny are that size as they dont eat

once they eat, of course they will put on 7+ lbs

what they really need to do is a catch up a year after -did the fat one lose the other 4+ stone and do the skinny ones actually keep eating?

my friend is size 6 and eats 3 meals a day and snacks but is naturally slim-another is 6/8 but rarely eats and when does then is sick to keep weight down :(

Hoebag · 27/03/2012 23:47

I'm a convinced the scantily clad fest at the begining is Dr Jenssons personal fetish aha.
too much of a smug grin.

Janoschi · 27/03/2012 23:59

Oooops, I obviously missed the point of the show then. Too distracted by the distinctly creepy Dr Christian. His face looks as though he's wearing someone else's face stuck over his own. If you know what I mean.

Bitchy comment alert.
