To expect a decent glasses case when I've just spent over £200 on the glasses.

Just got my first reading glasses from Boots (novice spectacle purchaser) and got a Prada pair and a D&G pair on offer. Spent a fortune on them and my sister collected them for me. When she delivered them they were in the flimsiest plastic case that will not withstand the rigours of my handbag let alone the curious little hands of my 3 year old. Would IBU to complain?

No, YANBU
But you should have collected them yourself, so the optician can adjust the fit properly round your ears etc.

Didn't they come in D&G and Prada cases? They should have done, not cheapo shite boots own cases.

vigglewiggle · 27/03/2012 20:10

No, they came in cheapo Boots ones. I don't have a Boots Opticians near me and so they were sending them to my local Boots Chemist. My sister was in the shop today so collected them for me. They have said to call in if they need adjusting and I was wondering whether to complain then. I just wondered if this was the norm and if they would tell me to get lost!

Go back and complain. My D&G glasses, came in a very large case with a diamanté logo on. Having said that it is useless as will not fit in my handbag.

vigglewiggle · 27/03/2012 20:19

Ooh, not sure I'm a dimante kind of girl Grin. I just want something fit for purpose and worthy of the price tag!

I just got 2 new pairs of glasses and tbh I wish they had come in a crappy plastic case. They both came in fancy leather(ette) covered cases which I know from bitter experience are made of rubbish aluminium and if put in my handbag or change bag will end up dented and squashed.
They are honestly only good for making my bathroom windowsill look nice.

vigglewiggle · 27/03/2012 20:30

I think a few dents would be ok, but these will fall apart within about 2 weeks. I will complain and see what they come up with.

I get my glasses for £40 from Glasses Direct. I get cases, and little cloths that are very handy for cleaning my iPad.

You have been swindled Grin.

vigglewiggle · 27/03/2012 20:37

I got cloths!

I get my glasses from a local optician. He always lets me choose a case for free from the range on sale there as well as the case the glasses came in. He is a total babe!

Designer specs always come with a posh branded case. You've been diddled by someone. Go back and complain. I've just had a new pair of Oliver Peoples specs and they have come with a large black hard shell case and a cloth bag.

MrsJoeDuffy · 27/03/2012 23:41

love glasses direct. love the cloth. It has a picture of a cat on it. It tells me to clean my glasses with the cloth, not the cat :) :)

I couldn't get worked up about this, the massive cases that 'designer' glasses come in are nowt but a pain in the arse, they are the size of an encyclopaedia and won't fit in your bag or desk drawer. Mind you I only take my specs off to sleep in so the case is never really used.

I don't think it is a case of being diddled, they were probably shipped from the opticians to the local boots without the bulky cases to save space and weight. Go to the opticians if you must, but really it isn't worth the hassle. But you DO need them adjusted to fit properly!

I always end up with designer glasses simply as to wear them all the time they tend to be the lightest/comfiest. And they always come with proper cases.

I only use the case when I put my sunglasses on to drive and managed to lose the case over winter - went into specsavers last week to buy a new one and was given a new proper one for free.

YANBU. I spend about 400 euros on glasses, necessary with my prescription and glass thinning, and it's annoying to have to buy a decent case for them.
