Martin Brundle is on Sky, no David Coulthard. Then Damon Hill sometimes appears.

It's just not the same is it? Highlights on BBC1 this afternoon when you know the result anyway. Sad

We get the Sky commentary and vision interspersed with local comments here in Oz. It was great when we had the GP here in Adelaide, but then bloody Melbourne offered Bernie more money nicked it, but it's losing truckloads of money so Australia will probably be off the circuit once this contract runs out.

Even though as an Aussie I'm supposed to barrack for Mark Webber I've always liked Kimi. His "I was having a shit" comment about Pele presenting the trophy to Schumacher was brilliant!

NettoSuperstar · 29/03/2012 17:35

Kimi is awesome, he just is
He was on Top Gear a couple of weeks ago and cracked me up. His lack of words, and when he does speak, are so well chosen, is what I love about him.
Also, his total lack of concern for the corporate shit.

I recall a few years back, and he'd got the fastest lap, after doing pretty much everything else, and when he asked about it he shrugged and went, 'Well I could'. (or words to that effect anyway)

I almost wet myself, and did actually cry in 2007. I had waited so long for it, and was so disappointed in 2005 when it should have been his championship.

I have one of those 'Baby on board', signs in my car, except mine says, 'Mrs Kimi Raikkonen on board'.
I love it!

Glittertwins · 29/03/2012 18:20

Kimi is a genius!

NettoSuperstar · 29/03/2012 20:28

He is.

Mark Webber is so bloody boring.
Also, he says, 'and er, after everything.
How was that lap Mark?
And er, then I went round the corner, and er then the next corner came, and er, and er, then the straight, and er, and er Kimi came near me, and er, on and on and bloody on.
He's F1's version of watching grass grow.

Also, I have heard that they are trying to get him out, to get Kimi in his seat.
Seb Vettel vs Kimi.
Bring it on!Grin

EauRouge · 29/03/2012 20:37

Kimi is brilliant. Jenson is pretty funny too, and doesn't come out with a string of lame excuses when his race doesn't go well unlike his sulky team mate

Wibbah is dull as, and he should stop saying 'and er' so much and start saying 'for sure', that would make his interviews far more entertaining.

Conchita · 29/03/2012 21:01

I used to like Webber til I realised he was petulant and sulky. He reminds me of Damon Hill.
I met Jenson once. Pleased to report he was loooovely.

NettoSuperstar · 29/03/2012 21:19

I dislike Jenson, and Lewis.
Just because.
Actually, mainly because I find them smug and overrated.

I've spent the last two years cheering on Alonso, Still love him, but now Kimi is back.
It's all about Kimi.

oldsilver · 29/03/2012 22:00

Grin Everyone watching it in our house shouts "for sure" along with them .... didn't know there was an actual championship - DP and I like it, lots Smile

Johnny Herbert is and was always my favourite driver for so many reasons and the fact he is just plain a driver Smile

Glad there is a Pedro back in F1, DP has already lost the sweepstake on him falling off the track and taking someone important off with him though.

PoppaRob · 29/03/2012 23:41

Here in Oz it's fashionable to think Webber is the ant's pants and Seb Vettel as a bit of a princess, but watching Vettel in interviews he comes across as much more fun and articulate than Webber. There's another young Aussie, Daniel Ricciardo, who seems to have both talent and personality so he's one to watch.

Sparklingbrook · 30/03/2012 07:49

Webber is very easy on the eye

NettoSuperstar · 30/03/2012 08:25

Ewwww, he is not.

EauRouge · 30/03/2012 09:56

Vettel has seemed really off this year, even before the first race. I wonder if he's not happy with the car?

What do you all make of the rumours of Massa getting replaced before the end of the season? Too bad Kubica isn't match fit, I would love to see him in a half decent car. I wonder if he'll ever come back to F1 :(

AnEcumenicalMatter · 30/03/2012 11:00

So, am I the only Paul DiResta fan on MN then? He has a fantastic rookie season in a fairly second rate car and always comes across as a professional and accepts responsibility for his mistakes. Interesting that he's managed by Lewis Hamiltons dad while Lewis has showbiz management . I'd love to see what he could achieve in a better car.

I'm still adjusting to the Sky coverage. Although being able to watch the middle-of-the-night qualifying sessions in bed on my iPad using the Sky Go app almost makes up for the lack of Jake & DC.

I was at the Barcelona GP last year and had flights booked for the Valencia one this year. However, some very inappropriately timed shagging means that I am due to be in labour instead which would undoubtedly interfere with my enjoyment of race weekend somewhat Grin

AnEcumenicalMatter · 30/03/2012 11:05

I can definitely see Massa getting the boot sooner rather than later. He becomes more of a liability with each race. Although if there's any truth in the rumours, it could be Sergio Perez's bum in the Ferarri. Which would also go some way to explaining his strange 'running wide' incident in Malaysia when he had the pace to catch Alonso (although he'd have had a hell of a job passing him anyway) and hadn't put a foot wrong all race. Didn't want to upset the potential new bosses?

Glittertwins · 30/03/2012 11:44

Massa has never been the same driver after that accident with the wheel hitting him. Understandable really. I'm not sure if Kubica will ever come back after his crash. He's out of contract now and he wasn't ex world champ before so a bit unproven really. Seeing as its a high money risk, i think he might have to go down a step in terms of a car to get a foot back in the door.

Lewis needs to stop believing in his on column inches and focus on driving. I w so please he and that thing split up as at last maybe he'd return to concentrate on driving. Soooo disappointed to see her back prancing around the pits :( His dad kept him grounded and that's what he needs, not some paid lackey telling him how wonderful he is. Bet his dad does well with DiResta.

MessNessPess · 30/03/2012 11:48

For those with F1 addicted dc the sky coverage is fantastic, all practice sessions and repeats in the week to.

JADS · 30/03/2012 12:02

I am so glad to see I'm not the only one who loves Kimi. He is hilarious!

EauRouge · 30/03/2012 16:35

I like Di Resta too. I like pretty much all the drivers except sulky Hamilton and Webber.

Good luck with the labour AnEcumenicalMatter. I was meant to be induced with DD1 on the morning of the 2008 Japanese GP. Fortunately she arrived on the Friday and I was able to watch the quali and race with a squishy newborn Grin

AnEcumenicalMatter · 30/03/2012 17:39

Thanks EauRouge. I've told DP that if baby arrives during the GP weekend, I'm choosing an F1 themed name. Which could be interesting if baby is a girl Grin

EauRouge · 30/03/2012 19:03

My DD2 is called Adelaide, none of my friends believe me when I say that it is not because of the F1 race. But it really, really isn't. We just liked the name.

There must be loads of F1 themed baby names...

oldsilver · 30/03/2012 20:58

Its difficult really : Is Massa ready to sit back and let Alonso walk all over him, or is it better to actually challenge the numero uno driver - this has always been a problem with the Ferrari No. 2 drivers.

Damned if they do, damned if they don't.

Mind you the same thing could be said of Nico Rosberg - does he take on the challenge of MS (I hope so) or does he have a car that tends to be less reliable, has problems in the pits...
