Martin Brundle is on Sky, no David Coulthard. Then Damon Hill sometimes appears.

It's just not the same is it? Highlights on BBC1 this afternoon when you know the result anyway. Sad

Am also glad Kimi is back - he rocks! Still weighing up the Sky coverage. Damon's okay but not sure about David Croft - he's a bit "high octane". I suppose it's because he used to do the Radio 5 live commentry and needs to get used to the fact we can actually see what he's commentating on so HE DOESN'T NEED TO SHOUT WILDLY. Martin is brill - great dry, sense of humour. Anthony Davidson is good but can't see the point of Georgie Thompson - she needs a serious wardrobe makeover.

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 25/03/2012 13:11

I enjoyed watching the drivers loosen their racesuits during the 'interval' Blush

Sparklingbrook · 25/03/2012 13:14

Quite right too Jenai. Wink I think Mark Webber is a bit of alright.

Is it just me or were the bbc highlights a bit shit today? They missed so many key bits

Refuse to get Sky no matter how much I miss Brundle's commentary. Would probably be another matter if Jake and DC were to defect though....

EauRouge · 25/03/2012 17:15

Ooh, an F1 thread Grin

I don't mind the new BBC highlights, I think they are OK. Not as good as watching the race live though. I think DC and Ben Edwards will improve over the season.

I listened to the quali live yesterday, has anyone listened to the radio coverage? James 'I love Lewis' Allen and Jamie Algesuari are an... interesting combination.

Is Anthony Davidson on the Sky coverage? He always used to wind me up, all he did was go on and on about how he used to drive in F1.

Does Martin still do the gridwalk before the race? I've gone off him a bit after his interview in F1 Racing last month, he came across quite badly.

EauRouge · 25/03/2012 17:17

Oh, and from a completely shallow perspective I am quite enjoying DC and Jake's contest to see who can wear the tightest trousers. I do wish Eddie Jordan wouldn't join in though.

TalkinPeace2 · 25/03/2012 17:22

will NEVER pay money to Murdoch for Sky
would have been happier if the commentators had morals too
how quickly do you all forget your outrage about Millie Dowler and her ilk?

once Bernie cops it, all the deals will unravel and F1 will return to the real world - look at the NJ F1 as a case in point.

NorfolkNChance · 25/03/2012 17:27

YANBU

It used to eat into our weekend enough on ITV, now it's on ALL weekend and DH has to watch the practices etc.

The sky is in my name, I might cancel it.

wherearemysocks · 25/03/2012 17:31

I love Jake.

We got the F1 channel so we could watch live and still have the qualifying and all the build up.

But I also watch the BBC highlights just so I can see Jake.

Panzee · 25/03/2012 17:55

TalkinPeace2 The Guardian didn't quite get it right

ohyouBadBadkitten · 25/03/2012 17:56

Agree with you talkinpeace.

Only advantage now, is that if they spend ages going round behind a safety car at least we now don't run out of coverage time.

oldsilver · 25/03/2012 18:04

I am missing Martin too Sad Definitely no way we'd go over to Sky both for principle and financial reasons. Agree it's all got a little excitable shouty on the beeb though!!

At least the next race is going to be live for everyone Smile

Sparklingbrook · 25/03/2012 18:25

Yes, roll on the next race. I am getting all confused with what's on when and which channel. With practice and qually then the race, it does seem to have been on all weekend. Grin

We refuse to more than double to get Sky Sports to watch it live. I'm not sure if Sky provide the edited material to the BBC or the BBC make the cuts for the highlights but we got really fed up of not seeing what was going on out on track with Lewis & Jenson after the first pit stop as we just got replays of pit changes :(

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 25/03/2012 18:31

The red button stuff is fab. I've spent the past two Sunday mornings pretending to be Lewis or Jenson or one of the behind the scenes people who look at all the monitors, whilst drinkingh vats of coffee and eating toast.

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 25/03/2012 18:33

fwiw I think the Sky coverage missed a fair bit from the track today. Not seen the BBC highlights though so I can't really compare. I thoroughly enjoyed the race, but think last week's coverage was better. Maybe it was more difficult because Jenson was so far behind?

oldsilver · 25/03/2012 18:54

Chinese, Spanish, Monaco, European (Valencia), British, Belgian, Singapore, Korean, Abu Dhabi and Brazilian are are going to be live on BBC.

Glittertwins · 25/03/2012 18:58

So if the Sky coverage wasn't so good either, I feel more justified in not getting it! Roll on the proper live BBC races!

TalkinPeace2 · 25/03/2012 19:03

panzee
News International paid coppers, harassed her school friends and DID listen to her messages after she was dead. Nobody is sure who deleted messages or whether her phone did, but EVERY other aspect of their behaviour was utterly despicable and illegal.
I have not read a Murdoch paper since he took over the Times. I will NEVER pay for Sky
as that would be supporting the journalistic ethics of Fox News and his papers.

the sooner money grabbing Bernie and son of Oswald, Max stop being in control of F1, the sooner it can turn back into an honourable sport that unlike many has INTELLIGENT competitors.

EauRouge · 25/03/2012 19:23

Max has retired hasn't he? Jean Todt is head of the FIA now. Agree that Ecclestone and Murdoch are both bastards though.

Hattie23 · 25/03/2012 20:57

I'm missing Martin and "Lenny" but glad to still have Jake and DC.
I thought the BBC coverage was not too bad today. I was worried it was going to be like previous highlight shows ie just 1 hour but 2 hours was pretty decent.

Rowgtfc72 · 25/03/2012 22:09

Certainly not missing Martin and loving the tight trouser competition ! Was gutted when it went over to Sky but the highlights on BBC seem to be pretty much the whole race so don't feel too badly done to. Didn't realise we were getting so many live races-thought there were only five. Anyway, roll on touring cars on ITV4 next weekend.

Sparklingbrook · 25/03/2012 22:13

Thanks Rowgtfc, love the Touring Cars and didn't have a clue what channel they were on. Grin

Does anyone know what the plan is to show highlights of the Canadian/US races on the beeb? They are usually shown live late on sunday afternoons - does this mean that the highlights will now be shown late on Sunday nights? I'm not sure I can wait that long- particularly for Montreal!

I can't figure out how to link it but there is a petition on the government e-petition site that is for F1 to be free to view- I can't remember what stage it is at but please sign it if it is still open!

EauRouge · 26/03/2012 09:28

Says here they will be on 'later that night'. I love Montreal, I was gutted when Sky got it.

I've seen that petition, I think I signed it too but we'll probably just have to wait until Bernie snuffs it.
