So today I hear the last straw on the TV, companies like Cadbury are going to reduce the calories in their foods.

How are they to do this I wonder Hmm could it be that yet again they will reduce the size of the product while maintaining the same price?, just as Pringles have less in them, tins of cola have less in them, wagon wheels are more like pram wheels and so on.

And this after the introduction of yet another tax on booze and the news that companies will be reducing the amount of alcohol in their products, notice the words reduce rather then launch new lower versions to be sold alongside the existing ones, yet another case of trying to get more money out of people, as they know people will just buy more if the percentage is less.

This of course on top of the all ready high tax on booze and fags (and petrol) and the takeaway tax on hot snacks they have just created to go along with the Vat all ready on things like cakes.

I'm sick of it, I'm sick of being treated like a fucking idiot, I'm sick of companies and the government insulting my intelligence by hiding their greed behind the false flag of public health.

We all know smoking is bad for you as is drinking and driving everywhere (which is all so bad for the environment), but smokers and drinkers all ready pay tax that goes to the NHS, Drivers all ready pay road tax why should they pay more tax?, the government is just a dealer pushing up the price because it knows the people are addicts and will not stop, and drivers will continue to drive.

I'm sick of it, the majority are not fools and don't need the government pricing them out of things, if people want to eat cake all day until they are so fat they can't leave their homes so be it, thats their own fault, leave them to it, it's called freedom and it's something we are all meant to have in this country.

Well said!!!!

It's one reason I intend to move abroad. I wish there was an uprising in Britain, against the costof everything.

I don't umnderstand the alcohol thing. Most countries in europe have far cheaper alcohol and far less trouble with it.

MyLittleMiracle · 24/03/2012 17:10

What angers me even more is also that they are taking all the JUNK like additives and flaourings and colourings out of JUNK food to make it healthier, I mean ffs, if i want JUNK THATS WHAT I EXPECT TO GET!! not some watered down healthy version!

And lets face it if someone wants a drink and to get drunk they will do it, it will only make the illegal and sometimes very dangerous alcohol more appealing!

Cadbury's is no longer a British firm - it's owned by Kraft now.

I hate all this too - we have nothing in this bloody country anymore.
the whole place is going down the pan. :(
(I'm in a bad mood because the shop next door to mine is closing at the end of the month, it's the last day of a book shop that I know of in another town, and I've taken under £500 this whole week. (need about £1000 just to pay the overheads)

Have you read the report?

New products are going to be made, because the content of alcohol in some wines has crept up. As well as looking to lower the exsisting products.

It isn't the making (brewing etc) of the product, quality etc that gives it it's strength, that can be controled without the loss of taste etc.

The same with chocolate, it is cheaper to pump it fullof crappy fats, which puts the calories up.

You need to watch programmes on the truth behind out foods. Our foods are becoming more and more unhealthy, to increase profits.

Birdsgottafly · 24/03/2012 17:15

Btw, we haven't got freedom in this, or many other countries, because of globalisation, so government control is needed over manufactures.

Educate yourself.

I have a really high metabolic rate. I need full fat everything or I drop weight really quickly, and it isnt pretty. I've been accused of being anorexic before. I NEED the calories dammit!

Birdsgottafly · 24/03/2012 17:18

The manufacures pay less tax, also.

Red- it isn't just calories, it is saturated cheap fat that they want to control, there are alternatives, but they lower profits.

Birdsgottafly · 24/03/2012 17:23

This is interesting

This country stinks. My bus company increased the price of a return ticket from £2.50 to £3.50 a few months ago. The problem is, is that to get a £2.50 in the first place you needed to spend £4.90 on an all day bus/tram ticket on a different bus! Hmm Bastards are trying to screw us for every penny they can get.
