Every single day when I'm driving there is always:

-Someone who drives 20mph under the speed limit
-Someone who drives 20mph over the speed limit and hugs my bumper
-People who don't indicate at roundabouts/junctions
-People who do not know how to use a roundabout - you give way to the right therefore there is no need to just sit there when the right hand is being blocked by oncoming traffic therefore you can go! Angry
-People who do not use their lights - hello? I cannot see you (especially in the fog we had the other week)
-People who don't bother to move in traffic and cause an even bigger hold up, when there is a huge gap in front of them. Please. Move. Up.
-Those big bloody 4x4 cars that always seem to hug my bumper
-People who drive all over the road/on the white lines/on the verge of the road - why can't you drive in the middle like everyone else
-People that cut you up - I'm sorry but you are aware that I am coming towards you, why are you pulling out which then requires me to brake from my 40mph to your measly 10mph whilst you try and build your speed up.

Tbh, I don't care if I'm being unreasonable - these things hassle me on a day to day basis and I am fed up!

:o

I agree with you op.

However I do try and adhere to the speed limit but have found I'm constantly being tailgated by other drivers, makes me so mad Angry. The only time I do about 5mph under the speed limit is a road I drive down every day where I've had two accidents because people have pulled out of parked positions or side roads in front of me. I just proceed really slowly now and other drivers can fuck right off if they don't like it Grin

Sparklingbrook · 23/03/2012 15:46

We live in a cul-de sac and I drive very slowly up it because children and cats are playing out. Wish everyone else did. Sad

NiniLegsInTheAir · 23/03/2012 15:51

So do we Sparklingbrook and I also wish everyone else did!

ExcitedElectrons · 23/03/2012 16:36

Yes I try and keep to the speed limit as I'm petrified of being caught, but it doesn't help with the tail-gaiters!

Am glad lots of people agree! :o

I hate it when you see a speed camera sign but no reference to the speed limit. My Dad did tell me something about distance between streetlights, but i was Confused. If there's a camera sign it should have the speed underneath it IMO. Grin

SpottedGurnard · 23/03/2012 16:38

Going into a space forwards is fine if you can (a) park your car first time and (b) reverse out whilst looking at what's coming at the same time.

Some people in the supermarket struggle with point b.

SpottedGurnard · 23/03/2012 16:39

Sparkling brook- if there are street lights and no signs indicating limit then it will be a 30 road.

Sparklingbrook · 23/03/2012 16:41

Why didn't my Dad just say that Spotted? Hmm Also what are 'repeaters' he was on about those too.

ExcitedElectrons · 23/03/2012 16:47

Oh and I forgot to save about the closing the gap thing, it's only big gaps! Don't get me started on cars that sit so close to your bumper that if your car rolls back an inch then they've had it! And it would probably be my fault wouldn't it? Grr!

OP posts:
Angelico · 23/03/2012 16:48

YANBU. Other people are dicks in the car Hmm. Pet hates are definitely the 40-50mph drivers on 60mph country road and fucking morons people who don't know how to indicate on roundabouts.

SpottedGurnard · 23/03/2012 16:52

Hm, no idea what repeaters are I'm afraid.

Technically there's a distance that the street lights are apart which is supposed to tell you that it's a 30 zone. I'm not very good with distances in yards so this is the rule I stick by. If I'm in any doubt as to whether a road is 30,40 or 50 and I see lights and no signs then I assume it's 30. I can always speed up pretty quickly (fast car) if I see a sign saying otherwise.
Obviously if I pull onto a country road with a few street lights and all of the cars are going at 60 then it's a NSL zone.

Does this make any sense at all?

Sidge · 23/03/2012 17:01

To the woman who I had the misfortune of encountering yesterday - you are an utter pillock and deserve to be rogered by a donkey with syphilis. Yes, you!

The very woman who decided that the queue of 4 cars waiting patiently behind parked cars on their side of the road, who could see me coming, decided that she would just overtake them and sail along the wrong side of the road heading towards me and not slow down as she approached me.

Outside a school at pickup time.

Absolute bloody liability.

nickelhasababy · 23/03/2012 17:02

speed limit - actually, the speed limit is 30mph unless it specifies otherwise.

It has to say National Speed Limit for it to be 60/70

regardless of what the road condition is.

Whatmeworry · 23/03/2012 17:03

If there's a camera sign it should have the speed underneath it IMO

Or close to it - the number of UK towns and cities that drop 40 zones - with cameras natch - into 60 roads is a travesty.

LucyManga · 23/03/2012 17:04

You have all probably made driving errors yourselves on occasion, so chill out.

Whatmeworry · 23/03/2012 17:06

I agree about those who stick at 40mph on 60mph roads. I drive down a long country road to work and this is the bane of my commuting life! Don't they notice the increasing queue of cars behind them?

I have found my blood pressure goes down if I put my brights on and taulgate them :o

GladysLeap · 23/03/2012 17:21

My pet hate ATM is when the average speed cameras are on the motorway. There are always a few who drive at well over the speed, then brake hard when they see the cameras. I would like a big overhead sign telling us how many people they've caught for speeding on that piece of road and how much they've collected in fines. Would make me feel much better for chuntering along at 48 mph while being overtaken by all and sundry.

grimbletart · 23/03/2012 17:23

Lorries on dual carriageways that insist on overtaking the one in front even though they can only go about .5mph faster. Happened to me today on the A14 where it took one lorry all the way from the A508 turn off to the A6 turn off to overtake - and that is several miles. Trails of cars behind him in the fast lane stuck at 45 mph. Did he care? Did he buggery?

topshelfrita · 23/03/2012 17:25

No-one seems to have mentioned the fuckwits who drive one handed with their sodding phone clamped to one ear. I always seem to encounter them at roundabouts, struggling to indicate/change gear/change lane all while continuing their crucially important conversations.

Bennifer · 23/03/2012 18:06

About the 40/50 mph in a 60mph in the country, I'm definitely one of those and proud of it.

I think there are an awful lot of roads, which if you don't know them, down in the west country are quite bendy. 40/50 mph is often quite adequate

TandB · 23/03/2012 18:40

I had a daft pedestrian encounter today. The road out of our village has a hill with a 90 degree blind turn and is only just wide enough for two cars to squeeze past eac other there. So I came round the corner tight in as usual, to avoid being hit head-on by the lunatics who cut through the village at 60mph...and encountered a couple walking on the inside of the bend where they couldn't see cars coming and the cars couldn't see them. Fortunately I always crawl round the corner at about 10mph but anyone going any faster would have hit them. Why it didn't occur to them to walk on the outside of the bend I can't quite fathom.

RubyFakeNails · 23/03/2012 19:19

This thread is just what I need. Today on the M25 at about junction 27/28 where it goes down to 2 lanes for a short time I had been cruising along quite enjoying myself in the fast lane coming home early on a friday afternoon.

Then I encountered 2 massive lorries, one suddenly moves over so there is one in each lane, both doing about 40mph, and this is slightly uphill. Cue slamming of break and a large queue of raging people behind me. The prick finally moves back over to exactly the same position he was before, behind the other lorry and when i drive by GIVES ME THE FINGER!!!!

At this point I really let myself down Blush although I doubt he heard a word I said but I hope his lip reading skills are adequate to know it was a cunt heavy tirade the absolute bellend.

Also this week I saw a guy reverse up the North Circular into oncoming traffic, I again slammed breaks and Shock but kindly the guy behind me took over the role of road rager.

Sometimes I think people are at legoland or something in their heads. Although watching the two wanky boy racer audi drivers nearly crash into each other because both failed to use indicators did give me a little flash of pleasure.

Sparklingbrook · 23/03/2012 19:52

I drove through somewhere last year and there was a light up sign in a village. If you were doing 30mph it did a smiley face, if you were over it did a sad face. Genius.

Wellthen · 23/03/2012 20:08

Repeaters are just the smaller speed limit signs attatched t road signs or street lights. If its a built up area it will be 30. If its national speed limit it will be 60. Anything different there will be repeater signs as that is less common. So if youre driving for quite a distance and cant see repeater signs you can assume the limit based on where you are. Supposedly.

My addition to this thread: people who overtake while you are SPEEDING UP. They cant wait the 2 seconds more it takes you to get up to full speed!!? Constantly on my way to work I'll be behind someone who slows to turn off and as I pull away after them and start to seed up to 60 the merc or beemer behind me has to overtake as they couldnt possibly be going less than 60 for more than a minute. So they end up about 10 meters in front going the same speed!! The other day someone driving the SAME CAR as me tried this and at one point we ended up neck and neck, both accelerating so I had to pull back so he could come in front before there was a crash. He got a very loud 'fucking idiot!'

Also agree with the 50mph in a 60 zone. An awful lot of people seem to think this is actually the limit. Its light, dry and safe and yet they stick resolutely at 50. Why?

Rosenotinyorkshire · 24/03/2012 10:25

YANBU. I am fed up of the morons I encounter on a daily basis. My pet gripe at the moment is the utter knobs who don't think they should give way if parked cars are on their side of the road. Angry They plough on through, faces set in grim determination that not one second of their day will be wasted on having to wait for others for micro seconds.
