to think that the chancellor should have stopped portable child benefits

I think this loophole for children living overseas whose parents (from overseas) are 'seeking' work in the UK are entitled to claim UK child benefit money should be stopped, it is costing the UK tax payer millions, AIBU to think that this should have been abolished in the budget? How accurate checks are carried out to claim CB when the children are living overseas is beyond me.

Shocking loophole if it's true - DH and I don't get child benefit because DH is from the US, is a US taxpayer but not a UK one. He gets nothing from the UK system, he puts nothing in. The trade-off is that our council tax is paid by the US govt, it's fine - but we do live here, where living costs are high. I'd be very annoyed at a family whose children are living in another country where the cost of living is substantially less getting UK child benefit - there are plenty of children here in the UK who need it more.
