Well, am I?

OP posts:

Starwisher i think kals point is she wouldnt have anywhere near that amount.most parents i know solely on benefits are on less than 20k take home.

Starwisher · 22/03/2012 16:42

I have seen other posts on different forums showing people getting those amounts

I am only basing the calculations on our personal circumstances

Btw we are applying for benefits so I will be able to tell you the reality of what actually happens Molly!

KalSkirata · 22/03/2012 16:43

very few ppl would have anywhere near that amount. Only those with 12 kids and living in a massive private house with high rent.
The vast majority on benefits have total incomes of under 20K even when they do get housing benefit.
So this whole 'beneits are equal to an income of 42K' is a bunch of hoolie

Starwisher · 22/03/2012 16:46

Well if we were renting and got what the website said we would be better off

As demonstrated above, based on our personal circumstances with 2 children

Hecubasdaughter · 22/03/2012 16:46

People are reacting Bella because in Britain today who are doing without. I mean without basics by the way. Just to make them feel better some people (not you) love to tell them they are scum and/ or must be irresponsible with money.

For these people earning 42K is a fantasy. They are in a hole they will never get out of so they are jealous of people like you bella, it's human nature. The poor have to accept their fate but you can't expect them to be ecstatic about it.

Jins · 22/03/2012 16:47

Starwisher has said what the take home from a 42k income is and it was 28K

Hecubasdaughter · 22/03/2012 16:50

28K is almost 20k more than our take home so I would definitely regard a 42k salary as luxury.

Starwisher · 22/03/2012 16:51

That's based on also paying student loan back (in our own circumstances)

Jins · 22/03/2012 16:51

Hecubasdaughter I can't believe you were turned down for CTC :(

KalSkirata · 22/03/2012 16:51

\I just did ours. when dh is made redundant later this year we will be entitled to £12,000 a year. £1200 of that is council tax benefit so will go straight to the council.
Thats a mix of income support, child benefit, child tax credits.

Starwisher · 22/03/2012 16:53

Kal I said benefits plus minimum wage income

So assuming £11k income that's £22 k

KalSkirata · 22/03/2012 16:54

who gets 11K in CTC unless they have 4 or 5 kids?

Starwisher · 22/03/2012 16:55

Eh?

KalSkirata · 22/03/2012 16:59

you said assuming 11K earned at min wage, a family gets 22K. What is the rest of this money? CTC?

peskimo · 22/03/2012 17:04

What gets me is that the mega high earners still sit and fill out the form and send it off with their baby's birth certificate, rubbing their hands at the thought of grasping £20 odd a week. Everyone has the choice to not receive child benefit if they think they don't need it.

Starwisher · 22/03/2012 17:12

You said you woul get 12 k in benefits + 11 k for job

KalSkirata · 22/03/2012 17:16

no, I said when dh is made redundant, we would get 12K total in benefits. Nothing for a job because he wont have one.

Peskimo, dont forget Cameron filled in the 42 page godawful DLA form for his lad to get £100 a week. If I was a multi squillionaire I wouldnt.

2shoes · 22/03/2012 17:20

I see this has turned into a benefits thread.
yep I get the irony as it is about well paid people wanting to claim benefits.

KalSkirata · 22/03/2012 17:27

well, its meandered from the point, which is poeple on £1000 a week dont really need child benefit. Which they dont. Not really.

Starwisher · 22/03/2012 17:30

My original point, which you kept claiming was rubbish, was people receiving benefits and on minimum wage would not always be that much worse off

But hopefully you see with 12k benefits and if one of you got a 12k job in reality the final amount is not wildly different

KalSkirata · 22/03/2012 17:32

the benefits would reduce accordingly surely

2shoes · 22/03/2012 17:32

KalSkirata why would they. I for the life of me can't see why someone on that income would think they are poor.

oiwheresthecoffee · 22/03/2012 17:32

Ofcourse they dont. It should be a bonus not something you depend on on that kind of money ! If loosing it affects them so much then they are clearly livin beyond their means in the first place.

molly3478 · 22/03/2012 17:34

If you work you would get significantly less than 12k in benefits

Starwisher · 22/03/2012 17:37

Face palm

Ok, I think we are going around in circles

Run figures through entitled to based on 12k salary and one with none
