It depends on what you're pouring it over

If it's being poured over beef, then yes it is.

I hate gravy granules anyway...all I can taste is salt.

OldGreyWiffleTest · 21/03/2012 11:41

Depends. If all you've got as a sub is a choice between Chicken Granules and hot water, then there is no contest.

pinkdelight · 21/03/2012 11:41

It's not ideal but better than nowt. We had to have chicken gravy on our beef at the w/e. Still tasted pretty yum!

I assume it's an online shopping delivery. If it's something that you would never buy if you were shopping in person, then no, it's not an adequate substitution. If it's something that you would go for if what you wanted wasn't available, then it's fine.

In this instance, chicken gravy can feck off, beef is the only acceptable kind.

YANBU. But then gravy granules are not really an adequate substitute for gravy.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 21/03/2012 11:51

Mum, (it's her gravy) says"no no no no" it's not like that, I add it to me meat juices." "bloody Mumsnet, their all eedjits"
I think she would fit in here a treat! Grin

YANBU. It would be like using fish sauce for lamb Hmm

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 21/03/2012 12:02

I suppose it could be worse. We once asked for gluten free bread and got normal bread, and once asked for gluten free pizza bases and got gluten free tea cakes!!!

I can't tell the difference.

Red Bisto granules are really nice when you tip some meat juices into it, goes all thick and lovely.

Anonymumous · 21/03/2012 13:30

DH insists on beef gravy granules on every kind of meat, insisting that chicken gravy granules are just not the same.

(Well, he did until I went all Jamie Oliver on him a few months ago and started making proper stock and gravy like one is supposed to! Wink )

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 21/03/2012 13:33

Yes Anon, but that doesn't help if they sent me chicken granules does it?!

I'm with MrFluffy. Never notice much difference.
