to find my personal details on a website

Googled my name and found that it appears with my address (virtually) on 192.com website, when I enquired as to how they managed to obtain my details they told me the info was from the electoral role. You can request to have your details removed from this website if you so wish, I have done so. AIBU that private companies should not be able to publish your personal details without your permission?

Are you in the phone book?

When you fill in your electoral register form each year you need to make sure that you tick the box saying that you don't want your details on the edited register. This is the document that can be sold to anyone to use the information as they wish. Then your details are only on the whole register held by the COuncil to show who can vote. It can be viewed by anyone, but the information only used for very select purposes.

Well, when you fill out the voter registration form/electoral roll thing, there is a box to tick if you don't want your details given out.

So technically, you have given permission.

I am ex directory, I do realise that you have to tick a box on the electoral form but missed doing this in 2002,that is the reason why it appears. I had no idea that our personal details were sold on, even my DH name is on there next to mine.

yes I can see that's a bit of a loophole if you have ticked not to be shown but it shows your 2002 details still! I would complain

You can download a form from the 192.com website to request removal.
