On the front page of tomorrow's Mirror is this quote from Dennis Waterman "Yes I hit Rula, but clever women make men lash out"

Speechless. I hope nobody ever hires him again. (Not that lots of people are at the moment, but you know what I mean).

OP posts:
Figarello · 20/03/2012 13:18

Most men (and women come to that) - whatever their intelligence - will choose to turn around and remove themselves from the situation twatface DW describes. He is using RL's superior intelligence as a reason for punching her just as he is using his thickness as an excuse for punching her. He has not taken any responsibility for his actions, and neither has he shown any regret or remorse for punching his then wife.

However difficult or not someone is to live with, DV is never an

I wonder what the audience's reaction was to DW's revelation on the PM show? I won't find out as that would mean having to watch Piers Morgan Envy

Figarello · 20/03/2012 13:20

But how do we know that Rula Lenska psychologically abused Dennis Waterman?

Birdsgottafly · 20/03/2012 13:21

Worried- he wasn't being abused,he says himself that he was drunk when all of the incidents happened.

Which can show that someone is acting out of characture, if they are caught up in addiction, but he isn't saying that he is justifying him hitting her, to shut her up.

MissFaversham · 20/03/2012 13:23

Speaking to a colleague at work about this today and he said wormy old Waterman was always lashed up in a pub round the corner from here. Pathetic drunken shrivelled up fool Angry

Figarello · 20/03/2012 13:26

He used to own a pub close to where I grew up. Think his brother managed it, or certainly someone who looked like him.

HillyWallaby · 20/03/2012 13:26

WB if he felt he had been emotionally or psychologically abused then that would have been the perfect time for him to stand up and say so - and that would have been looking for justification! (it still would not have been justification though.)

Fig we don't know. WB is just pondering aloud. He hasn't said so, so I think we can all assume that he was not. Unless he is now some sort of silent martyr as well as a wife hitter. But he seems happy enough to talk about the rest, so I'm sure he's say if he felt he had been abused by her.

Birdsgottafly · 20/03/2012 13:29

He is also saying that DV is beating a woman black and blue, not giving her a slap. That is not acknowledging what it is like to live with someone who will hit you, so that you don't complain about their behaviour.

It was directed towards her daughter, as well.

It was the denial at the time, i can remember the scorn poured on RL, because she dared speak out against him.

Him, George Best and Gazza, were heroes in some people's eyesand how dare these women complain, was the attitude.

LadyBeagleEyes · 20/03/2012 13:31

I just watched Loose Women discussing this.
Denise Welch is apparently a close friend of Rula, and quoted her as having said that she is glad he's finally admitted it, as she spent a long time being disbelieved.
Not a fan of the show but they were unaminous in their opinions of him.

HillyWallaby · 20/03/2012 13:31

WB as far as I am concerned HR most certainly could have just got up and walked away from any abuse (had there been any, hypothetically.) He was not financially dependent on her, they did not have young children together, he was a successful man in his own right, well-known, a decent career etc. And all of that would have applies to her also, so it wasn't like he had to stay out of duty or guilt for her sake. No reason at all to feel trapped and intimidated into staying. You cannot compare it to invisible women with children and no financial independence who stay in abusive relationships.

MissMarplesEasterEggs · 20/03/2012 13:33

I saw loose women also. Rula was before this apparently branded a liar regarding her allegations against Dennis, which hendenied at the time. Well done Piers in sucking that out of Dennis.

HillyWallaby · 20/03/2012 13:33

sorry I mean HE could have walked away - not HR!

doubleshotespresso · 20/03/2012 13:45

I'm concerned at the view that people can just get up and walk away from psychological abuse.

worriedbetty , I am beyond concerned that:

a)you appear to seek a reason for him being violent?

b)that you seem to think if somebody has suffered abuse it's perfectly excusable for them to go on and inflict abuse on others.

Wouldn't it be fabulous if Rula Lenska let us all know what she said to him so that we all know what not to say to our OH'S and therefore inviting them to hit us with our oh so poor choice of words. F F S!!!!!

All MNs please say it with me now:

There is never an excuse for hitting a woman.

We are discussing a washed-up 70's tv star who earnt ridiculous money from being an average actor and singing on cringe-worthy soundtracks, who now has the audacity to court publicity to further fuel his shrinking ego with none other than the utterly repugnant, Cowell-endorsed Piers Morgan.

Can it really get anymore depressing in 2012 to read such utter twaddle?

NunOnTheRun · 20/03/2012 13:50

Let's hope that a certain Lesley Ash takes note of this story.

doubleshotespresso · 20/03/2012 13:56

Oh dear god in heaven! Nunontherun!

Would that mean we would have to read an interview with that [twat] talented footballer and entrepreneur husband of Leslie Ash?

I don't think Piers Morgan could get two syllable outta him do you?

carernotasaint · 20/03/2012 16:28

Id love to be a fly on the wall while they are filming New Tricks in future.
Im willing to bet the producers arent happy.

NunOnTheRun · 20/03/2012 16:29

doubleshotespresso - You have a point there Smile
Moron must be rubbing his hands with glee, having managed to extract recent confessions from Ken Barlow - Sex God and Dennis 'DV' Waterman.

No, I just think that in the current context we haven't heard the last about the Ash/Chapman marriage.

doubleshotespresso · 20/03/2012 16:30

Yeah I am sure they won't want his "Old Tricks" to effect them.....

doubleshotespresso · 20/03/2012 16:32

Nunontherun -I have a beautiful image of a nun hoiking her boobs a la Les Dawson!!! Thank-you for that it did make me giggle out loud to myself just now- I almost spat out my tea!

LadyBeagleEyes · 20/03/2012 16:51

This should be in sleb twaddle...but
... was it true about Leslie Ash then?
Leans into garden fence to hear Nun's gossip.

carernotasaint · 20/03/2012 16:59

I dont agree that it should be in "sleb twaddle" that would be beliittling a serious issue just because the perpetrator happens to be famous.

Anniegetyourgun · 20/03/2012 17:02

I always thought Denis Waterman was disgusting anyway

LadyBeagleEyes · 20/03/2012 17:04

I was asking about the whole Leslie Ash thing though, not the Waterman stuff because that is now out and he's admitted to it, and Rula Lenska has always insisted it was true. Leslie ash is a different case entirely.

flippinada · 20/03/2012 17:15

That is grim.

How disgusting - I've always enjoyed New Tricks but I won't be watching it again.

Oh and no, a woman cannot 'make' a man hit her. The responsibility is his alone.

OriginalJamie · 20/03/2012 17:17

It doesn't really surprise me, sadly. It's what a lot of people believe

noddyholder · 20/03/2012 17:18

He is vile. I hope people to give him and his shows a wide berth now.
