To think that not all of the threads started this morning...

...are as they appear?

A significant number of threads asking for advice on "bloke has done x nasty thing" have appeared in my Active Conversations over the last hour or so, which just happens to coincide with the dramatic appearance of several threads by people claiming to represent F4J.

AIBU to keep my skeptical head firmly on? I won't be reporting any posts because some are going to be genuinely needing help. However, F4J have stated on one of their threads that they will be taking out an advertising campaign tomorrow which apparently includes screen shots of posts from MN inciting gender hatred. So watch what you're posting!

I'm going to take a break for a while and come back when things have calmed down I think. Adios. Smile

PurplePidjin · 19/03/2012 12:39

Can't be arsed! Nothing I say is so important that it needs so much effort behind it.

A real shame that infiltrators are potentially ruining it for those in genuine need though.

I have been called a 'nutjob' for the first time today. On a thread I started to do with Defibrillators. Hmm

LadySybilDeChocolate · 19/03/2012 12:41

But...you don't have any nuts, you're ...female!

gooddryingday · 19/03/2012 12:42

I wondered about this too, PurplePidgin. (I am regular but have n/c today)

Some of the alleged name calling eg 'pencil dick' could easily have been made by f4j posters themselves just to add fuel to their advertising campaign.

I'm hiding anything that smacks of 'nasty bloke did this' type of thread today.

PurplePidjin · 19/03/2012 12:42

everlong the stuff in site stuff and politics is obvious. Unfortunately, the trend I'm seeing is in AIBU and Relationships. So there's no way to tell the difference between an OP in need and someone trying to provoke an unguarded comment to use in a media campaign...

See you later, LadySybil Brew

ChickensHaveNoLips · 19/03/2012 12:45

You're not paranoid if they're really out to get you

PurplePidjin · 19/03/2012 12:50

Gooddryingday, I like the namechange, mine has just finished but it's clouding over Sad

LadySybil, I'm suffering from a delayed hangover so will stick to Brew to. I was out gigging on Saturday but had to visit both sets of family yesterday so am having today to recover Hmm

Chickens, are you trying to imply that MNHQ has a secret nuclear bunker full of naice goodies? Shock

I would always give the benefit of the doubt, and assume that it is an individual poster with a genuine issue.

I think that is the spirit of MN anyhow, and fits with their guidelines.

I think it is really hurtful to genuine posters should you assume agendas beyond their post.

And if it is later shown to be a wind up thread (or even deliberate troll), answers which have assumed that beyond what is asked will only feed the agenda.

You can make your points without any baggage. And if you are uneasy about a thread for any reason, you can report your concerns to MNHQ who will keep an eye on it.

ChickensHaveNoLips · 19/03/2012 12:53

Purple, they absolutely do. It's full of wine, biscuits and pom bears. Also possibly some voodoo dolls of SWMNBN.

Rosa · 19/03/2012 13:03

I have just replied on one saying come back after the F4J thing has calmed down ...It has that troll smell to it and it is a very long first post with all the elements just asking for somebody to come on and say something very negative about a 'man'
They really are being very childish about this all. we need W4J to come on and say stop calling people a silly bit*h or whatever.

Sparklingbrook · 19/03/2012 13:07

Could someone PM me and put in a nutshell what is going on with the F4J thing? TIA

PomBearAtTheGatesOfDawn · 19/03/2012 13:11

This is my first post of the day because I know you're the one and only Pidj we all know and love Grin
I have been sitting on my hands for a few days now, resisting typing "you stupid cow, grow up/wake up/get your head out of your arse/how can you be so stupid with only one head" to all the people who seemed to get dimmer and dimmer and more and more inane, and now I realise why it seemed that way!
I can relax and let it all drift over my head and hope that anyone who actually would like to talk about something properly (and isn't um, how shall I put this, a stone based lifeform) will hang around until the dust settles.

Calamityboo · 19/03/2012 13:15

I don't know what is going on with my beloved MN lately, I don't really know anything about the F4J invasion, but I have seen the threads that you mean, there have also been controversial threads (trolls I think) about all of us being bullies, nazis, men haters, women haters etc. I may just lurk about for a bit incase I post something wrong and start a war!! Who ever PM's sparklingbrook please could you send it to me too, it would be nice to know what is happening.

PurplePidjin · 19/03/2012 13:27

Edith, I don't post in Relationships much because there's not a lot I can say. I just think we all need a little more circumspection than usual just in case, because some posts seem deliberately designed as traps.

Rosa summed it up well, some OPs today smell of troll but there's no evidence. MNHQ must be swamped Sad

Pom, I'm flattered. I need to take a break, obviously, before I get accused of being Royalty libellous and treasonous statement I tell you

Will PM now,gimme a minute :)
